Thank you for recording and offering your process -- especially when blowing through a block. I follow Sarah S too, and seeing your interpretation of her exercise is valuable: there's no shortage of painting tutorials on YT but simply witnessing someone pacing through simple exercises is rare. I could watch these every day.

Two weeks = a long break? 😂 I haven't painted in over two decades, so you can only imagine how rusty I feel, and how much fear has built up that I can't paint. This is exactly what I was looking for, and need. Thanks! Not sure if I'll mix ahead of time or not, but that doesn't matter. I definitely need to relax and loosen up! Interesting to see how much more confident your brushstrokes became by the 3rd painting. Really great video. Thanks again!

Glad to hear this was helpful! And that’s amazing that you are getting back to it after such a long break! You can do it 🙌😃

@@christinakentart I've only been painting since November 2020. There's much to do on my list. I prefer oil paint as I feel it's easier than acrylic or watercolor.

Christina, these are so lovely and I really enjoyed listening to you discuss your process and choices and rationale! That’s all such helpful information.

Great video - I love watching you paint. Both paintings are beautiful, and your texture is gorgeously tactile.

Just took a look at your Etsy store. Wonderful work. Love that painting of the SF cafe, ala Edward Hopper! Reminiscent of his work for sure, and yet all your own. He's one of my favourite painters.

Very good exercise and great execution, as usual:)) I found another problem :))) I would like to be able to paint with oil paints and this is my main goal, but not only that. I would also like to paint with gouache, watercolor, draw with charcoal and pastels. And this requires time, which I don't have much of. And I can't decide what I would like to do:))) Maybe you know a way to do the exercises using all these materials? Kind regards!

I know what you mean, with so many mediums it can be hard to choose just one! You could do something like a 30-minute still life sketch each day, and with each sketch you switch to a different medium? You can also try using them all in the same exercise and see what happens :)

@@christinakentart Thank you for your answer. That's what I did today :)) I have a slightly longer vacation and I can paint more. In the morning I painted an oil landscape, and in the afternoon, after a break, I painted a pastel sketch of oranges and tangerines. It was possible :))) Best regards from Poland

I can relate! I think it's a left brain / right brain thing (if you believe in that). Left brain doesn't know how to paint, but does know how to talk. Right brain knows how to paint, but doesn't know how to talk. I just have to get started!

Did you do all 3 of these in one day?
@christinakentart Жыл бұрын
Yes, I did! I set a time limit for each one, treating them as quick exercises rather than finished paintings. I find it helps take the pressure off to make a “good painting” :)

Love ur vlogs as always. However The only anxiety i feel with art is "why am I painting" . Thats The big one for me.

Thanks HP :) do you mean you are questioning the purpose of art in? Or why you in particular are making art?
