"Hold it for one more year. Transfer title over to the California corporation. Show it as a capital gain" What did he mean by this?
@MrGruffteddybear3 жыл бұрын
My guess is that if property values are going down, depreciation in value will help in cutting taxes owed. Holding on to the property for one more year will also lower his taxes as there is a difference in short term and long term capital gains. And transferring property between businesses is another way to alter taxes in the companies benefit.
@BoldWittyName3 жыл бұрын
@@MrGruffteddybear if one of his companies is having a 'down' year financially that would be the time to take a capital gain profit. Additionally, an entity can only show 'paper losses' for a finite period of time. Afterwards there is tax incentive to sell. Transferring ownership to an unrelated company could reset the clock on claiming depreciation.

Lou says that Thornton could lose some weight but Thornton would rather just get fatter people for his commercials. It's like how Thornton later says, "Who has the time to read the book? I see the movie, you're in and out in 2 hours." I guess he'd say, "Who has time to workout and diet? I get bigger actors and I look thinner."
