My almost 8 yr old grandaughter lives with me and she loves cooking breakfast (almost by herself). Today she was practicing cracking the eggs by herself.She has been helping me in the kitchen since she was a toddler...she started washing dishes and now she is cooking !! So it is great to get the kids helping in the kitchen!

That's so great! My mom didn't do well teaching me to cook...she was too much of a perfectionist. I learned from friends and on my own as an adult. My daughter has been helping cook since she was 2. She is now 15, and can cook pretty much as well as me. Letting them "help" from a young age pays off! My daughter was actually more of a help than hindrance by about 7 or 8. She starting getting her own snacks around age 2. She was good about asking first for what she needed to ask for.

I dice several onions and then store in a quart baggie in the refrigerator to use all week for several recipes. Just knowing I have diced onions motivates me to make something delicious. Once when we were going on vacation, I chopped up onions, peppers, and carrots and froze the. Because they wouldn’t be good when we returned. That worked well.
@marciesullivan34924 жыл бұрын
I had a bunch of onions that I was worried wouldn’t get used up so I diced them and froze them. They work so well! Even in fresh recipes like pasta or potato salad. I won’t go back to chopping fresh onion every.single.time. I need it!

I just made a batch of breakfast burritos. I used eggs, cheese, turkey sausage crumbles in the mix. Then when I assembled them, I added picante sauce and a bit more cheese. I wrapped mine in foil then put into the freezer. When i heated it, removed the foil, then wrapped the burrito in paper towels for about 2 minutes. They were delish. The extra cheese and picante sauce added moisture as they have a tendency to dry out.
@cindygray83224 жыл бұрын
We eat our burritos at home so I assemble and place on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. Then I place the cookie sheet with all the burritos in the freezer for about 6 hours or so. Then I just put the burritos in a gallon sized freezer bag all together and they don't stick to each other.
@Anyankah4 жыл бұрын
I do something similar with the breakfast burritos, except i go ahead and wrap them in a papertowel then wrap with cling wrap and stick in a zippy bag. It keeps the cling wrap from sticking and if there's any moisture from the bag it catches in the papertowel and sort of steams the burrito when it cooks.

Greetings from Australia. We make Savoury French Toast here In our egg mixture we put Italian herbs ground to a powder and a dash of Worcestershire Sauce and a little milk. Keep your Serian Wrap - We Call ours Cling Wrap in the fridge makes it much easier to handle. Ranch dressing mixture - we can't buy it here so this is the recipe i use:- 1/2 Cup Dry Buttermilk, 2 tbs Dried Parsley, 1 tsp Dried Chives 2 tsp Garlic Powder, 2 tbs Onion Powder, 1 tsp Dried Dill, 1 tsp Kosher Salt, 1 tsp Ground Black Pepper, Pinch Of Cayenne Pepper, Optional. To make pizzas I chop all the ingredients in the veggie chopper e.g capsicum, red onion, mushroom, deseeded tomatoe, green shallots, fetta cheese baby spinach, sweet cherry tomatoes, diced chicken, oregano, mozzarella cheese and home made pizza sauce on split hotdog rolls that has been toasted. And yes Australians spell word differently and call fruit and veggie by different names. And in reply to those who are condemning the use of plastic. I was raised to be polite and use my manners you don't have the right to condemn any one for what the do or do not use or live their life. It is not polite to make the comments condemning some else. Have a happy day.

Great idea to put a grocery bag in the garbage bowl so that you can just tie it up and throw away. This is what I call smart and lazy. Smart because you can easily throw it away and lazy because you don’t have to wash the bowl. Since I only have a refrigerator/freezer, I usually only put leftovers in the freezer, like Taco Soup and red gravy. Once I made a meat loaf and cooked half and put the other half in the freezer. I think I will make up a few crock pot bags. It’s just me and hubby and a separate freezer is no longer needed. When our children were home, we had an extra freezer. Now, we make due with the freezer in our refrigerator.

Love the playful banter with Mr Toodles. Had me cracking up since hubby or I often say something like that them realize it might sound mean. Smashed my finger in sliding glad doors about 8 weeks ago. It was black under the nail for 2-3 weeks, lost the nail, then slowly seeing it grow back (almost 50 back now). Warm water soaks as much as you can. Epsom or not, both help. Lots of Neosporin, if you lose the nail, then bandaid until you see healed skin & about 1/3 of new nail. (Did all this for a lost toenail before, and now can't remember which one it was.)

The point of wrapping it in paper towels is because you wet it and it keeps the burrito from drying out. I freeze them in parchment but cooking it in that was a poor substitute to paper towels. Its advised to do it this way because its all around better.

So l learned a little trick to seal burritos. I fan all the tortillas out on the countertop so just the one inch top is showing on each one. Then you make a glue paste with 1/4 cup flour and enough water to make a glue paste texture. With a pastry brush, brush the glue on all the tops. When you fold and roll burritos and taquitos the glued edge will stick in the last roll of the tortilla!!!

You could totally use butcher paper or parchment and a bit of masking tape to wrap the subs instead of all the plastic.
@ashleyashcraft17544 жыл бұрын
My husband LOVES that sub sauce with this recipe: -tomato and basil tortilla -Drizzle with the sub sauce -Another layer of tortilla (reg or other flavors to mix it up) -he says it really helps hold the sauce if you are freezing. If you don't freeze ahead of time, one layer of tortilla is sufficient. -layer equal amounts of Genoa salami (we use deli from our grocery store), pepperoni (deli slices work best but the regular pizza size ones are fine too), ham, and provolone cheese (I usually use 2 slices of thin sliced provolone) -roll it up and I like to slice on a diagonal to make it look fancier. If making fresh, sliced olives, tomatoes, and spinach and/or fresh basil are good additions, but of course do not freeze well.

My favorite way to use that crumbled breakfast sausage for dinner is... I get a bag of the frozen four cheese raviolis, boil those up so they’re cooked...then in a skillet I brown a stick of butter and then throw in 1/2 cup of sage leaves, let them cook in the butter for a few seconds, then throw in a whole butternut squash peeled and cubed into 1” dice...let the butternut squash cook until it’s tender (add a little water to keep it from browning to much and to help it steam)...when the butternut squash is tender I smash it up with a potato masher...then add the ravioli to the sauce, add some pasta water to make it a nice sauce to coat and then top it with that delicious crumbled breakfast sausage...Yummy fall dinner and it takes about 25 mins total...you can also top with some Parmesan cheese or chopped pecans 🙂

Instead of Saran Wrap (which is a pain in the butt to handle because it insisted on sticking to itself) wrap the burritos and breakfast sandwiches in foil. You can even buy the foil sheets to make it even faster. It will come right off the sandwich before microwaving. As an extra bonus, we had a power outage and were able to toss the foil wrapped sandwiches right onto a grill outside (or you could do it in a fireplace or outdoor fire pit) and they heat up nicely in the foil.

We love shredded cheese in our breakfast burritos. Sometimes we also add potatoes. Thanks for the good ideas.

Bought the cookbook and it came today and I really love it. One negative. Today, so many have health problems and restrictive diets that nutrition numbers are important which are lacking in this book. I hope you will include if you do your cookbook (which I will buy even if it doesn't-lol)

I like to add orange zest to my French toast... along with cinnamon and vanilla. 🍊
