PUPILS let nothing stand in the way to success.
Although matric pupils from Ibongo Secondary School in Dlamini, Soweto, had to use a community hall to write their National Senior Certificate exams, they worked hard and increased the school's pass rate to 87,9% in 2024.
Principal Ezekiel Mamtupi was thrilled and proud of the pupils and their performance regardless of the conditions at the school.
“We have about two classes that still need the roof to be fixed. We also have classes that need to be painted. Besides that, we're ready for the new year and aim for a 100% pass rate this year,” said Mamtupi.
On Wednesday, 15 January, pupils seemed excited to be back at school and as they entered the school premises, security guards searched for any weapons and illegal substances.
Matric pupils were excited by their unique uniform, while grade 8s seemed shy.
The school had a lot of prominent visitors varying from the mayor, councillors, nurses, doctors, religious organisations, LoveLife and parents.
Pupils received health education, which included various contraceptives and dental healthcare. School shoes and uniforms were also donated.
