That is so kind of you to help a first year teacher even when you're not teaching this year. It's a good way to keep your hand in it. You have set her up for success.

Great ideas for a first year teacher! Will you be doing a follow-up with her in the classroom? Maybe helping her organize her room? I've been following you for years and I really miss your classroom set-up and organizational room tours. I've watched your old ones over and over and you have inspired so many things in my own classroom!

I love lakeshore! But the I find it is way cheaper to get bins at the dollar store. Just some advice if you are looking to save money. I do recommend borders at lakeshore.
@PocketfulofPrimary3 жыл бұрын
The dollar store bins break SUPER easily and don’t last. I personally prefer to invest in bins that will last YEARS instead of constantly buying cheap bins.
@hillaryh26413 жыл бұрын
@@PocketfulofPrimary I use mine to store lab supplies and have been using them for 5+ years and no issues, but if I had students constantly handling them, I definitely would not buy dollar store bins. :)

BEST OF LUCK for SY 21/22, Becca! Great to be w/you on your shopping trip & hear Michelle's reasons for choosing certain items. My district has awesome Middle School teachers who communicate really well w/ ea other and help one another out-- to understand the needs of the kiddos & share teaching tips. Be sure to reach out to your colleagues. Meanwhile, we will be cheering for you & your 7th graders.

That shop looks like heaven! In the States are teachers expected to buy resources for their own classroom or does the school provide them /reimburse the teacher? I’m a teacher in the UK and basic resources such as backing paper, notice board edging, pencils, pens, felt tips, white board pens and paper trays are supplied by the school. If we want other things like stamps we buy them ourselves. I’m interested to know how the two compare.

Hi. 20 year high school teacher here. Rethink having the kids put their phones in that thing. You become responsible for the phones since you told them to put it there. You can’t watch the phones and teach at the same time. If one goes missing, that’s on you. Instead, work on your classroom management and set clear classroom rules from day one.

So much fun shopping for new classroom stuff! I have to say though that I do not recommend the stikki clips. I got everyone at my school on that trend a while back bc they do work great but they have wax that holds it up and the wax leaves a residue. Our cinder block walls are now covered in splotches of dirty wax bc the reside has remained and now has picked up other dirt…and embedded wax on a textured block wall is very hard to clean! I may have to try going at it with a blow dryer. Also, kids walking by my hallway displays would pick out the wax to play with it and then things would fall down! It was really annoying. For those reasons I stopped using them.

I’m a retired teacher. Every school district and state in the country is different. How much start-up classroom funds each teacher gets at the beginning of the school year varies a great deal. My school district typically gave us each about $300. The school ordered all the office and curriculum supplies we needed and our furniture came out of a separate budget. Also, we had an active PTA that did a lot of fundraising, so each teacher would usually get a few hundred dollars to spend on classroom consumable supplies. Some schools are not as fortunate, as they don’t have a strong tax base or their states are very conservative with spending money on public education.
