Tara I have watched you for years (ALL the Little Women LA!) Honestly, I wasn't too sure when you became pregnant the first time. Probably because that show was my only exposure to you and I didn't see the rest of who you are. You are one of the best moms I've seen. The love you have for your children is incredible. Your ability to see each of them with their own unique strengths and struggles is so commendable! I love watching the fierce mom you have become! Well done!

You're definitely not crazy. My son's first grade teacher told me that getting out in front of his ADHD/social issues then (in 1st grade) was so important because second and third grades were all about the social interactions, making friends, learning conflict resolution, standing up for themselves, etc; all the interpersonal stuff (and she was right - it was when he made the friends he had all thru grammar and middle school). A 17 to 1 ratio is bonkers (and equally so if you flipped the genders). I'm surprised they themselves didn't see a concern with that - my son's first grade teacher would have! Good for you for addressing it.
@demijour1234 Жыл бұрын
@capricornk9033 I personally don't think that the school or teacher didn't care. I think if there are no girl students going to that school who are in special needs classes, then how does the school control that? I am sure they would have wished it was a equal ratio or almost at least.
@capricornk9033 Жыл бұрын
@@demijour1234 I didn't say they didn't care, but they didn't do anything about it. It's a real issue and given that they either couldn't or wouldn't do anything about it, Penny is going to a different school.
@demijour1234 Жыл бұрын
@@capricornk9033 Oh, I know. I wasn't saying that you said the teacher didn't care. I just said that, concerning this situation. I wasn't saying it to be against you at all. Honestly, that was not my way at all. Just trying to understand this issue overall. I rewatched it and I don't think Terra said the school wouldn't do anything about it. She said she just talked to Joe. I am wondering, how does a school fix this situation? I agree that Penny should have that opportunity with other girls in the classroom. If there are no girls her age going to that school who are in special needs classes. How does a school fix that problem? And, Terra wasn't blaming the school for the boy-girl ratio.

Self contained classroom balancing can be SO hard, the demographics can vary so wildly year by year. Some years caseloads are balanced, but others are overwhelmingly tipped one way or another. With Penny getting older, could a possible solution be for her to push in the gen ed classroom for certain subjects (PE, art, recess, etc). That way she’s getting at least part of her day with other girls her age at school. Is she still in Girl Scouts? Thats a great way to get in some girl time do. If you’re not already connected, I’d highly advise you to reach out to your local regional center about social recreation activities. Thats a fantastic way to meet other little girls her age who have similar developmental needs, and grow her little circle. School is an important part of our social life as children, but it doesnt have to be the be all end all!

Keep fighting/advocating for your children, that's what I love about you.

When my daughter was little she always had boys as friends at school. The girls that she had as friends were not necessarily the kind of friend that I wanted for her. But I can understand how you must feel. I was thinking that possibly getting Penny involved in Brownies or Girl Scouts might help or an after school fun activity like sewing. When my daughter was her age I got her into sewing lessons after school and she loved them. As an adult she still loves to sew and she’s very good at it. Good luck to you.
