I use those Apple beats pro bluetooth earphones and put it on noise cancelling. Acts the same as earplugs while riding but with the added advantage of music. Absolute game changer while cruising around Bali especially on the long rides up to the Kintamani caldera. All these boyscouts in the comment section talking about "awareness" and safety. You just need your eyes to be honest, hearing other vehicles as your means of threat assessment doesn't work at most speeds.😊 I'd argue having a helmet with wide field of vision is much more important if you're considering a new helmet Freddie 🙌🏼

If you're adding a Bluetooth headset to a helmet be sure to err on the side of a modern touring/sport model with modern features. You'll want it to be quiet and have good ventilation which the retro styled lids don't always manage. Plus, the simpler lines and solid colorways of a touring oriented helmet complement your sense of fashion and don't look too modern.

Regarding comms, myself, wife & daughter all have Sena SMH5's, We bought these 12 years ago & they continue to work. They are still available, but now regarded as entry level, they do what's required: intercom, phone & music. Simple to fit to any helmet, even the one your using Freddie.

My friend & I both bought the top of the range cardo intercoms, and have used them on every ride together since. It’s been a game changer in terms of being able to have a conversation or even warn each other of dangers ahead. And when I’m riding solo, I can enjoy a bit of Spotify. Can’t believe you did Scotland and weren’t able to speak to your riding buddy as and when you felt like it.

Bell makes a helmet that they partnered with Sena for a detachable SMH10 unit. I bought two for my girlfriend and I. The have bluetooth capability with intercom...which we don't use much. But being able to bluetooth into our phones to listen to music...or audiobooks for her...is fantastic. They were about $500 each for everything. Best feature is the unit detaches from the helmet to recharge. Sound is great if you use earplugs to block out wind noise. Highly recommended!!!!! BTW...love your videos! I'm a devoted Triumph rider on my third one...a 2023 Bonneville T120 Black. Love it! Great bike for getting around the Miami area. Not as exciting as riding in the UK but it is great to take it into the Florida Keys. Last year we visited the UK and intended to rent a bike for a month but the shop said due to the high theft they wanted us to change hotels to places that had locked garages. Couldn't change hotels at that late date so only rented the bike for a day...on which we got rained on all the way to Stonehenge. Wish we could rent a bike again for a longer period but I guess high theft is an issue there and we can't schedule our visit around hotels with locked garages.

I use a similar type of reader for my RT, works a treat. It's called MotoScan and costs about £50, then you have to download an app for your phone which (from memory) is about 20 to 30 quid. Very reasonable price to understand what your sensors are getting excited about and to reset fault codes once you've fixed the problem. Re helmet Bluetooth: tempting though it is, I think it's a lot safer just to concentrate on the road. As we know, it only takes a second for everything to turn to shxx on a bike. Re filtering: I rode like you when I lived in London. The only time I got caught was when I went on the near side of an elderly driver who didn't see me and knocked me off. I didn't do that again. I was reminded of it when I saw you go the near side of the truck!

Whatever helmet you choose, Freddie, do make sure it's homologated up to the latest standard ECE 22.06. While it's still perfectly legal to sell helmets to the old 22.05 spec, (and many retailers are offering large discounts to shift old stock), I would definitely recommend going for one that meets all the latest criteria. The old rules came in back in 2000, so go for 22.06.

Freddie - my view: I’m not rich but I got myself a shoei neotec 3 with the built in Sena. It might not be your style, but I have zero regrets. Podcasts on the motorbike? Nah….keep that for the car. Hi Freddie, I went to a big shop called Fowlers in Bristol. I asked them to let me try on the best helmets they had of every make, maybe 20 options. Shoei turned out to the best fit for my head so I then tried all they had in that brand. Bought a flip up one from them. Couple of years later Senna teamed up with shoei to provide a sound and voice system so I bought one of them on line. Fantastic, it was the shoei Neotech 2. I found out I didnt like listening to music or to be able to receive calls whilst riding. What I did like was Google maps on my phone giving me directions as I rode. Predominantly I was touring so perhaps thats why that option suited me. Either way you are right go try them all and find one to suit your needs.

You had to buy a membership to drink there and I was a bit concerned it wasn’t going to take off! However within a few weeks it had become the hub of the London bike scene, I’d go most nights after work and met some great friends I still ride with today. I’d guess that the Shed birthed the interest in biking for a lot of people so thanks to Dutch and the gang! Sidenote, that traffic reminds me why I don’t miss living in London!

The Schuberth helmets are good enough to be rebranded as BMW own and lids like the E1 and E2 for more adventure styling and C5 for road style - The flip design allows a much smaller neck aperture which will prevent a lot of wind noise. They are also prewired for comms systems so you don't have to pull the lining out to install (more importantly try and get the lining back in afterwards. They are the Metropolitan Police lid of choice. Oh yes and an internal tinted sun visorThey are brilliant and I only wish I had discovered them earlier.

Could be the best £60 ,you ever spend, my advice is to keep batteries above 50% charge with either a ctek traffic light monitor or a blue tooth battery monitoring device fitted easy to know your battery needs attention then.

Freddie, overtaking that van on the zebra crossing was illegal and incredibly dangerous, as you had no idea if there was someone on the crossing. When it comes to helmet audio I've grown to actually enjoy the tiny earbuds more than putting an actual full system headset into my helmets. I've got these micro earbuds that can fit in my ears and work both as speakers and ear plugs to avoid hearing the wind, and they're small enough to fit my helmets over them. Installing systems into my helmets with speakers is far more expensive, and at higher speeds the sound quality doesn't really matter when I'm also hearing so much wind. Bottom line for me is the ear buds are simpler, cheaper, and actually double as ear plugs to protect the ears from wind noise

We've just done a 1000 miles in Wales, 4 of us, all using senas, aside from the obvious added safety aspects in case of issues (and slight navigational errors) the general chat and banter just had us laughing and enjoying every single moment! I’ve recently bought a Nolan N120-1 helmet, modular, full face or open face, great quality and fit. But designed for their N-com system. Take a look Freddie.

@@FreddieDobbs I purchased the the cardo freecom 1 and the upgraded JBL speakers years ago. Great for listening to music and satnav directions. I've never paired with another rider as I prefer to ride solo, its never let me down. Would highly recommend that system 👌

I must say I've been mightily impressed by those little Triumphs. It's not hard to see why they've sold over 50,000 in a year. If it's bringing more new riders to Triumph, then that's good for the brand, but if it's also bringing more new riders to motorcycling, then that's good for everyone on two wheels.

great filtering, worthy of the best Dispatch rider. :-) one minute you're being called "not a real biker" next it's "you're a madman on that bike" All those who are criticizing obviously have never once exceeded the speed limit or anything remotely illegal. Anyhoo, quite like some of the Belstaff kit but it's way way over priced for what it is tbh.. a joy as always

Always best to keep moving your car to avoid flat spots on the tyre, bit like bed sores for cars aslo keep an eye on the battery 😊last thing you want is to have to replace tyres and a battery after it's been stood for ages, don't forget the poor fiat it's been good to you. I really need to get to the Shed, can't believe I haven't been yet. We really need to support our lopcal biker cafes.

The Fiat does deserve a good service👨🔧 If could probably do with a completely new set of tyres, too

I commute every day in one of the busiest cities in the world listening to podcasts, audiobooks and music in my helmet. For years and years. People here freaking out at the concept need to calm down.

I haven't read a single comment that would indicate anyone is "freaking out". Just sensible debate.

I personally wouldn't want to use an intercom system. But. I suggest you talk/interview the guy at Motolegends if he's able. That would be a good episode. I love his recommendations and channel.

Strikes me that Carley just gives us something else to worry about😅. As for the comms unit in the helmet comms - VERY useful if a group of you are out for a ride some nobody gets left behind. Music and podcasts? Only on a long boring ride - you won’t hear it on a motorway. Remember the whole Purpose of being on a bike is feel the great outdoors, smell the countryside, hear the birds etc. Then music is an unwelcome distraction. 😊
@FreddieDobbs2 ай бұрын
Very good points re intercom. I did wonder if I’d be able to hear music on the motorway

@@FreddieDobbsI guess it depends on your speed, fairing and helmet but on the Tracer (in my HJC rpha91 helmet) I could hear music up to about a hundred miles per hour. Cardo Packtalk with the JBL-speakers
@fiucik12 ай бұрын
Freddie, if you're looking for a new helmet, that looks the part and have some modern technology, maybe you should consider HJC V10. It costs about 260-300 pounds, it looks awesome in my opinion, and there are pockets for speakers and intercom incorporated. I personally use the old fashioned in-ear wired headphones. I can fit them inside my V10 no problem, no discomfort. The only problem is when I'm using my phone for navigation and I have it mounted on the Quad lock, the cable is flying all over on the wind, but I think what would solve this problem is...good ol' mp3 player I can stash in my pocket.

I *rarely* have any music on even when driving my car. I cannot understand why anyone would want to compromise their concentration when riding a motorcycle by importing a risk like unnecessary noise. There is a reason why pilots and train drivers are not allowed music/radio in their cockpit or driving cab.

I was just going to post something on this but you nailed it, I want to hear everything that’s going on around me. Why would anyone want to block off one of their senses whilst riding?

I have an old interphone intercom. Brilliant for communicating with my pal but never have radio/music streaming on as too distracting
@nockianlifter6612 ай бұрын
Depends on priority of senses. Note that Freddy is very visual, so sound isn’t as distracting as it would be with a highly visual person. I’m high audio, so I can’t have any sound without mega distraction.

Me and the Mrs got a intercom system which I now refer to as the "Nag Pack" 🤣. But, it is very helpful because you have two pairs of eyes instead of one. Very useful when approach junctions with acute angles. Tried listening to music on the move many years ago and it was a pain in the neck and if anything spoiled the riding experience.

Another vote for MotoLegends for proper choice of helmets, with expert fitting. They educated me into a less expensive helmet than the one I had come for, because the fit was soo much better. Schuberth C5 or Shoei Neotec are both nice flip front helmets, these are quieter by nature, because of tighter neck. PS. White helmets may not look so cool, but in hot weather, (think Africa), they really are!

I have 4 helmets. 1 hedon, 1 biltwell, 1 shoei and 1 schuberth. The schuberth and shoei both have comm units. I only use those on trips over 100 miles. Why? Because I typically don't want to be talking to anyone or listening to anyone but my bikes noises for shorter trips. I have a sena and a cardo on those two helmets but I do have an ultimaear on order from the UK to see if I like them better. Helmet wise the Hedon is really worth it. Buy one man. Your video reminds me I need to record a video myself of the LA shed. Lastly, if you haven't considered it yet you should become a Shed member...feel free to let Dan and the bunch know FunWithAj (current member) told you to join!
