Hotwheels is going to release an even better model next year. Also 1:18 but with lights and sounds, interchangeable wheels (standard, red/white and train). It's going to be the first model that can be transformed to represent all the 4 different models. Here's the full feature list: Mechanical; Rolling Wheels, 2 Opening Doors, Opening Hood, Flipper Wheels, Plastic Stand for when in Hover Mode Famous Hover Board is Included, 3 sets of Wheels are Included (Stock, White Walls, Train), Interchangeable Reactors, Removable Hood Box & Changing License Plate. The vents are indeed gray/metal in all three films. There's close-up alley scene where the DeLorean is landing in Part II and the vents are shown black. But that was a replica movie prop for that particular scene to show the wheels retracting which was edited with the real car once on the ground.

I have an early Sunstar Delorean. The detail was way off. I even wrote them and they sent me a correct Mr. Fusion as a replacement when later models were released. The Mattel version is far superior to the Sunstar. It's not perfect, but a vast improvement, as are all of their Cult Classics. Great review.

the colors are just too glaringly wrong on this version. that bright blue sticks out like a sore thumb. plenty of minor details were off on the sunstar one, but at least they got the major colors right

Check the end of the first film.. this is the car as it appears in Marty's driveway, after Doc Brown comes back from 1985 to gather up Marty and his girl... "Roads? Where we're going, we won't need roads." One of my favorite scenes in any movie, ever, LOL....

I was about to get me one, but then I noticed hotwheels did really f*ck up in their design of the sides of the car. For all the incredible detail they put in all the gizmo's and wiring, it's so hard to believe they didn't pay attention when it came to the side design. The rear wheel well isn't round on a DeLorean. The car here also sits too high. Those metal pipe things under the doors need to hang under the black bottom sidings, not on them. Plus those black bottom sidings are actually way wider than they are here. And then there's of course the colour of those connector boxes in the front that is wrong. For that price I expect more movie/reality accuracy. That is in fact the model of the basic car itself they weren't able to reproduce. What should have been the simplest part in this reproduction. Just sad. I'll stick to my Sun Star models, which may have less detail, but as for the reproduction of the car body itself are way closer to the true deal. As is the stainless steel look, which is another thing hotwheels could've done better.

+thephantasm2000 Making the delorean is definitely the most difficult part. I agree with all of your points, but replicating the time machine parts is significantly easier than doing the delorean itself.

I picked up the Ultimate edition with the added wheels, lights and sound effects. The blue junction boxes have been color corrected to a lighter gray. The wheels are interchangeable and the whitewall tires and metal rims from Part III are all the same size, as they should be. Only the stock wheels are smaller in front. When you change out the wheels, it changes the whole drop of the front end, but that's exactly what happened to the car in the films. Also in regards to the metal bars under the doors, there are now added undercarriage lights for when the car is in hover mode, so that slight trade off is worth it. The rear wheel well inaccuracies is annoying, but really not all that noticeable with the added light up electric charging mechanism nearly covering it. The overall stainless steel sheen is still too clean and not weathered looking like the Sun Star model, though. BUT, another extra detail is added dust/dirt on the rear air vents which looks best replicating the Part III look from driving in the desert. The Ultimate edition really improved on a lot of your critiques. But the price is insane.

Wrong. You're referring to the alleyway scene in Part II where the DeLorean is landing in the alley. That was a movie prop with retractable wheels and incorrect black air vents. The actual car's are steel/metal like the rest of the car. And that's for all three films.

Nice model though they dropped the ball on the bottom of the car, the wheels not rotating for flight mode and of course the blue parts which should be black.

All of this is corrected on the Ultimate version. And the bottom of the car has a lot of added detail.

The Ultimate version has the hover option with light up and sound effects. The only trade off for that is that the front wheels don't turn. But they are interchangeable with whitewall tires and metal rims from Part III.

It's definitely built better.. and the finer details are finer. Some of those wee wires are pretty cool. The Sunstar has folding wheels, but if I were dropping coin on one or the other, Id be pickling up this one. Thanks for watching!

I have this model and you sir are correct. Unfortunately the ride height of the model is also incorrect the real car sat lower to the ground .....there are a number of other inaccuracies that are also present as well .

this is fooling the customer and a joke! For this amount of money there should be not a single inaccurate part on the car! Here we have not one we have a bunch. I mean this cara arent made for 10 years old kids! They're made for hard core fans whinspend a lot of money for it and expect screen accuracy. Ill buy the sun star and add details to it and will still pay less than the half of this rip off!
