It was in 1984 on a late evening that my friends and I happened to be at Puente Hills Mall. We were in high school then. There, in front of Broadway, in the parking lot, a film crew had closed off the area for filming. Michael J Fox was there, along with Christopher Lloyd. They were filming a new movie. They changed the sign from Puente Hills Mall to Twin Pines Mall. And from inside a white truck, they unloaded it. It was the first time I saw the DeLorean Time Machine in real life! It was just beautiful!! We KNEW from that car, it was going to be an awesome movie!! Later that night, I got my picture taken with Fox, Lloyd, the Director, members of the film crew, and a few other actors. Yup... Folks *I was actually there!*. And today, all these decades later, the BTTF series remains one of my all time life favorite movie series. Puente Hills Mall (located near Rowland Hieghts, Diamond Bar, Walnut, and Puente Hills in East valley of the Los Angeles area) looks much different today. The mall is old and many other businesses have grownup around it. The area demographics has been one of the most striking changes because nearly every business in the area is now of an Asian perspective. The English language and businesses have all but vanished since the days I grew up there. It’s a whole other world today. BUT... If you go to the Puente Hills Mall South Parking lot that is adjacent to Colima Rd., and stand in the old Broadway parking lot, you can still see it. You can still recognize exactly where Marty McFly went back in time to 1955 and escaped the Libians at the near beginning of the first BTTF movie. I heard that they now even have the “Twin Pines Mall” sign on display, from the movie, inside the Puente Hills Mall. Oh man! I really miss the 80’s in Rowland Hieghts/Walnut/Diamond Bar/Puente Hills!! What a time that was!! The people then. The way life was! It was heavy! So much better than the world today.

Thank you, guys! It is one of my favorite childhood memories. Things are so different today, I sometimes wonder if my old boyhood life was just a “dream”. Ever feel like that? But then I find little cracks in the modern facade (like the parking lot at Puente Hills Mall) and I clearly remember that it really happened. I also realize just how much special “magical” moments like that changed my personal life forever as I went through life. And who knew that way into the future...in the year 2020, I’d still be talking about a night I experienced in 1984. The two time periods are nothing alike. The world was so different then. There was no internet. Cell phones weighed 25lbs., and were extremely expensive to operate. Computers were for geeks, and were quite primitive compared to today. The CD wasn’t quite released yet, only “laser disks”! Remember them? And people left the house and did things together to have fun. Cars were EVERYTHING! They had chrome on them that you would polish up before a date! Puente Hills Mall even had a Ferrell’s Ice Cream Parlor! The perfect place to take your date after a movie. And do you want to know a local BTTF movie secret? Do you remember the Kodak photo booth that the Libyans crash into when Marty McFly goes back in time? Well, a few years earlier before they ever filmed that scene, there REALLY WAS a Kodak photo booth there at that exact spot!! My Mom used to drop off film there to be developed. But in the early 1980’s, Kodak closed the booth and dismantled it. The movie crew recreated it for their scene!! It leads me to believe that someone in the writers group was also from the area, like me. Otherwise, how would they have known about the Kodak photo booth? Don’t you just love the mysteries of time…

The level of detail in this particular time machine is awesome better than the screen version. Well done lads. Normally movie prop cars are not what you really see on screen, it looks good on screen but not but normally very crappy up close, but this is clean and everything works. Once I will lotto I will ask Bob to build me one to this standard. :)

Hi Bob. I first came across you when you did the Twin Pines Mall recreation back in 2008-09, I forget when, and I only just found you again with this review, and I just have to say, this car looks incredible. If only I had a hundred grand to blow on something like this. Forget driving it. I'd be happy to just lock myself in the car, fiddle endlessly with the time circuit display, and listen to loud rock and roll music. It must be a hard career to handle, manufacturing replica movie vehicles. This isn't something you can decide to do overnight. It requires an extreme level of passion, time, patience, and of course an ungodly amount of money. As much as I love Back to the Future, I could never do this myself. I could never build myself or others a DeLorean Time Machine, let alone 26 or 27 or them. It is amazing what you and your team have been able to do for movie buffs.
@shaggy72
@shaggy72 3 жыл бұрын
I kept wondering about the gear shift. If they made it EXACT measurements as the prop, it wouldn't be very comfortable on the hands. Michael J Fox complained they had the time circuits (metal!) too close to the gear shift, so every time he shifted the metal cut his hand! And yeah, those Deloreans had a habit of not starting (not the movie, but the IRL car). Bet the owner is glad it is screen accurate in visual only and that extra love was put into making the car IRL a little more .. efficient & dependable.

There must be something that could be done to make the car at least sound somewhat like the high tech, nuclear-accelerated turbine powered, time and space bending vehicle of the movies. If not an engine swap, Could the exhaust be modified along with perhaps a speaker system to add that turbine-whine?

@@ivannunez7251 Yeah, but the quality of the video wouldn't have been as good. I owned a giant Panasonic video camera that used full sized VHS tapes. I think Mc Fly's camcorder was newer than mine! You could pull the video cassette out of the camera & put it straight into the top load RCA VCR that was heavy. It was well made & lasted 10 years or more with a corded remote🤣 It was the exact same VCR they have on the retro 80's sicom (The Goldbergs) If you love the 80's & you haven't seen that show, GET IT! Every episode shows or references or is about something we love from the 80's!) TANGENT! Back to the camcorder quality. None of the detail would be crisp & clear.

The DeLorean you had sitting outside the shop with the wide black sidestripe, did you remove the stripe to make it more screen accurate, or was it left intact? Just curious, because I've always hated those sidestripes. I prefer the original thin stripe.
