Y'all probably didn't notice, but the actress who plays Marty's girlfriend in this movie is not the same actress from the first movie. They did a cast change. The second "Jennifer" is actress Elizabeth Shue, who was at that time a bigger named actress than the other one. She also starred as 'Daniel LaRusso's' love interest in the Karate Kid, and starred in another popular 80s teen flick titled, "Adventures in Babysitting".

The time travel in this series is pretty solid and makes general sense, but it’s different from more recent movies with time travel. There is one time line, not a multi-verse. When you change something in the past, it effects the future. However, there is an effect that Doc called temporal flux where changes in the timeline take “time” to “catch up” to those “outside” of time. This is pretty much necessary for the first movie to have any tension. When Marty pushed his dad out of the path of his grandfather’s car, it took roughly a week before the changes he caused to change him, and gave him time to dread his inevitable non-existence and try to fix it. That should mean while Marty was surprised that his family changes after returning to the present, after a couple of days the changes should catch up and his memory should change to match his new past. I think this is part of what convinced Doc to tape up Marty’s letter. Marty said his dad never had stood up to Biff before and Doc said “never?” and looked lost in thought for a moment before realizing he had no time to dwell on it due to running out of time before the lightning strike. Doc realized Marty’s fix secured his birth but things would not be the same for Marty. Time was already permanently altered. So, I believe that led to Doc’s “I figured, what the hell” remark regarding taping up the letter. Temporal flux also means when Biff changed the past, there was time to try fix things before the changes effected them, although they did not focus on that aspect in the 2nd movie, that was more of a focus of the 1st. However, by going back to 1985 after Biff’s change, the flux had already changed 1985. Had they tried to go back to the old 2015, they’d be chasing after the flux and thus never would make it back before it changed too, so it made sense to go back to 1955 before the changes effect them and fix things, just like they did in the first. So, don’t think to hard about the time travel? I say go ahead, but it does work, and the attention to details are there. Doc broke the ledge on the clock tower so while it wasn’t broke when Marty left, it was broke when he returned. When Marty ran over one of Peabody’s two pines, the Twin Pine Mall that Marty left was the Lone Pine Mall when he returned. Now some things like Goldie Wilson running for mayor and Chuck Berry writing/performing Johnnie B. Goode had happened before Marty went back, but maybe Marty changed their origins through his actions. Anyway, Bob Gale co-wrote the movies and he did a fabulous job if you ask me. He never planned for the sequels, but when he wrote them (which were written at the same time), he followed patterns that were just brilliant. I cannot imagine them being different, really. Okay, enough raving. :)
@iangrant36152 жыл бұрын
I agree. Considering that time travel is probably impossible, it is hard to see how they could have made these story points make any more sense and made it all tie together any better than they did. I don't really see any plot holes based on the logic explained in these movies. It holds together.

It's not that hard to figure out how it works. There's the big handle labelled 'time circuits', the time display with obvious dates on it, and then you have to drive it really fast like he saw Doc do in 1985. And why wouldn't he go back to the future to enjoy his new rich life? He gets hurt, as you put it, because he's fading out of existence; there's a deleted scene that shows it. It's not stated why in the film, but one theory is that Lorraine shot him in the 1990s.

Tom Wilson is so underappreciated in this trilogy - he's even better in part 3. You're gonna love part 3 by the way. It calms down a bit and sews all this up nicely. EDIT: About "plot holes". There is no such thing. What people define as "plot holes" these days falls into three camps. (This is in no way directed at you both, just wanted to rant a bit) 1. You were not paying attention enough to recognise a plot point. 2. You want something to be different than what was presented to you. Marvellous secret here, you are not the writer/producer/director of anything. If you don't like something - forget it and move on instead of constantly moaning about it everywhere (Star Wars) 3. Use your own imagination. I admire media that doesn't have explanations for everything. Movies CAN be ambiguous, it makes your brain work a bit. We don't need YT videos "explaining" the ending of things, especially since usually they are wrong. Anyway, like your stuff, you have a really nice chemistry together.

10:00 "What is wrong with this guy". Doc told Marty earlier when they first arrived that Griff has problems with the bionic implants in his head. That's why his voice and his actions are so strange. 10:16 "Who's making the chicken sound". The guy to the left of Griff. His vest has buttons he can press for sounds. As for the issue of Marty talking on the walkie-talkie in the back of Biff's car and Biff not hearing him is VERY REALISTIC! Biff was listening to the radio, therefore the radio blocked out sounds from the back seat. Marty was facing AWAY from Biff so any sound that Marty made would BARELY be heard in the front seat of the car. So it is very possible that Biff didn't hear Marty at all. As for younger Doc not recognizing older Doc's voice, that's VERY plausible too! The voice you hear when you speak is not exactly like the voice that others hear when you speak. If you listen to your recorded voice, it does not sound like the voice you hear when you speak. I guess you guys didn't think of those things when you were criticizing the movie.

"The time-traveling is just too dangerous. Better that I devote myself to study the other great mystery of the universe: Women!" Unfortunately these days, some idiots can't even define WOMEN without using the fallacy of circular-logic. Fun Fact: First film appearance by Elijah Wood. He plays one of the two video game boys to whom Marty speaks in the Cafe 80's near the start of the film. Science Guy Fact: Astrophysicist Carl Sagan considered this the greatest time travel movie ever made. He praised the accuracy in handling the multiple time lines as what would really happen if time travel were possible (Narrator: It's NOT). In Back To The Future: The Game (1990), Carl Sagan is the alias used by Doc Brown when visiting Hill Valley in 1931. Technology Advancement Fact: The biggest effect the picture employs is a camera system called the VistaGlide. There are four scenes that use the effect of the same actor interacting with themselves. The four scenes that were shot were Griff and 2015 Biff in the Cafe 80's, the dinner sequence in 2015, 1955 Biff talking to 2015 Biff in the garage, and 1955 Doc talking with 1985 Doc. In order to create the dinner sequence with VistaGlide, the camera had to be divided into thirds and Michael had to come in three different times to play his older self, Marty Jr., and his daughter Marlene. This is the first film to accomplish interaction between the same actor on the screen twice as two different characters. If you watch closely, you'll see that 2015 Biff's hand disappears during the scene in the garage.

- Yes, they shot Part 2 and Part 3 back to back. Though after the first movie, I don't think they weren't necessarily planning on a sequel or a trilogy... they just though "to be continued" would be a fun joke. Back when these sequels came out in `89 & `90, there were several months in between them, which gave a lot of folx too much time to try to figure out how Marty gets to 1885. - Seven years ago, on the date of that future USA Today newspaper, the real USA Today actually printed the cover of that fake movie newspaper as the actual cover of that day's issue. - Elijah Wood, aka, Frodo Baggins, plays the little kid that makes fun of Marty for using his hands to play the Duck Hunt game at Cafe 80s. - The look of the Cafe 80s A.I. "waiters" were inspired by "Max Headroom", a show from the 80s about a future A.I. talk show host. - We all laughed at the JAWS 19 joke back then, but I don't think we're that far off from FAST & THE FURIOUS getting to Number 19 :O - Miami does have a baseball team NOW, but they're the Marlins, not the Gators or whatever mascot that was. And strangely enough, that scene took place in 2015, and the real world Cubs actually broke their 109 year World Series losing streak one year later in 2016 :D - There's a deleted scene where, after old Biff returns from 1955, he starts to fade from existence. That's why he looked all sweaty & hurt when he returned.

Writing a 2nd film in a trilogy is such an art, unlike a 1st film which can work as standalone, you're also trying to set up a conclusion. In a sense a part 2 and 3 have to work like two halves of a 2-parter, and so any addition, fix, setup for the overall trilogy must happen in 2, AND it has to work as is own film too. Something that's always impressed me is how Marty's catchphrase "Nobody calls me chicken" (just as iconic as Doc's "Great Scott!") is nowhere IN the first film, but in this one they use it like 3 times? So they are setting up this flaw for him REALLY aggressively! and because of that most people remember like it's been there from the beginning. But no, we're doing things here, we're setting up an arc.

They actually couldn't go back to their original timeline because it changed to the alternate one when they were still in the future. The proof was Biff getting out of the Delorean looking like he was dying...they didn't explain it but it was inferred that he was fading away like Marty was starting to in the first movie. So the only way they could fix it was to go back to 1955. The trailer for part 3 today seems like a major spoiler and it does kinda ruin a little of the surprise when if want to go in blind... but when this was in the theater and that trailer came on the screen, people went crazy cheering lol Different times. Their idea of 2015 was amazing ....flying cars but you boss fires you by sending you a fax LOL

Old Biff returning the time machine is a bit of a plot hole. He shouldn't have been able to return the time machine for the very same reason Doc says they can't go back either. He would have ended up in the alternate timeline having successfully given young Biff the almanac. Him fading/dying has something to do with a deleted scene where Biff was shot (by George I think) as old Biff returns.

@@michaeljacyna1973 Yup... you're right. I think tho in "their" universe the altered timelines happen so slowly he was able to come back and be replaced by either successful or deceased Biff. The same way in the first movie it took the whole movie for Marty's brother to fully disappear in the pic.. and him when it should have been right away.

No he wasn't fading. He injured himself getting out. He broke the kane and hit/stabbed himself. Remember by 2015 Biff is 77/78 years old.
@michaeljacyna19732 жыл бұрын
@@michaelconnor1542 There's an actual filmed but edited out scene of him fading, which is the real intent of his pain in that moment, having been shot. That's also been explained by the Bobs. So it's not incorrect to say he was fading.

@@michaeljacyna1973 kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z2OXXpWQosuVhrM Here is that deleted scene. They should have kept it in the movie. It would have made what was happening make more sense.

Yeah part 2 really just made the whole "how time travel works" even harder to understand here. If old Biff changed the past he should have traveled back to the future where he was rich (and dead) like Marty did after he changed the past as made his family better. If anything old Biff taking the almanac should have created a paradox. If Doc was committed he never builds the time machine and thus the whole adventure should have never taken place, and if its the multiverse theory they use now then old Biff should have traveled into an alternate future after he gave the book to himself like Marty did and thus Marty and Doc would be stuck in the future where Marty got into the accident and his life was messed up

I don't think this scene is in your reaction.... but from a filming practicality POV... when Doc peels off his 'face' because he has de-aged himself via medical intervention. He essentially de-aged the actor 30 years since he was playing an older character. In part one (if you watch in HD --- I never noticed as a child watching on TV/VHS or even DVD --- both Doc and Strickland's fake wrinkles makeup are very evident.... much less so with Marty's parents grey hair and 'fat' make-up). So moving forward - Christopher Lloyd does not have to wear that make-up for the majority of part 2 or 3.

From a technological point of view, it was a bit of a stretch for them to imagine 2015 the way they did in the mid-80s. Hey it worked in favor for the film. But historically from 1965 to 1985, the tech did increased exponentially. Even watching the tech grow from 1985 to 1995 you would've felt more awesome-ness was coming. Personally, I think certain corporations or groups stopped certain things from happening or technology from being pushed further. Same tactic where ideas and certain speech is being covered up or silenced. Anyways, it was pretty hilarious how certain things they predicted in 1988/89 for 2015 is what we actually have today.

I saw this one in a theater as well, with my best friend, it was great. Also Biff’s name is Tom Wilson and he’s a total sweetheart. Ok I’m gay, but still…. Part 3 is better than part 2, not that this wasn’t good. I have fun watching these movies with you guys. I have 3 foster kids who’s are about your age, and I feel like I’m hanging out with their peers, trust me, it’s a huge compliment.

Totally fair ratings. It’s really not _that_ big of a deal to see the trailer, but the warning is good because some people like to avoid anything like that. If it didn’t bother you any, no problem. It is what we saw in the threater. People often mention the _Rick & Morty_ connection with Doc and Marty, though I’d say Morty is much more like Marty Jr. That being the case is kind of funny to me, as Dan Harmon doesn’t seem to have a particularly high opinion of BTTF Part 2.
