Stam Fine Reviews looks at the Back to the Future Movies.
In Part 1 of our review of the trilogy, we look at the original film. In Robert Zemeckis’ Back to the Future, 80’s teenager Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) travels back in time to 1955, where he gets in the way of his parents’ meeting, endangering his own existence in the process. Also features Christopher Lloyd (Doc Brown), Lea Thompson, Crispin Glover, and Thomas F. Wilson.
Back to the Future is one of the best Time Travel movies ever and one of the most popular films of the 1980s.

Just finished watching parts 2 & 3 of these reviews. They are/were/will be very good. Unfortunately the DeLorean crapped out on me a week next Friday, so I had to hitch a lift back from some weirdo in a blue box.

BttF is one of those rare breeds - a perfect film. Sure, you could probably pick apart the time element plot holes, but when you're watching it none of that matters. Plus it has one of the most exciting climaxes in film - I've seen the film millions of times yet I'm still on the edge of my seat. Zemeckis needs to go back and films like this again.

This film is . . . perfect. It’s a perfect movie. I’m sure someone can bring up some nits to pick, but fuck em. Wouldn’t change how well scripted, paced, funny, and resonant it is. I love it so much, and it’s the last piece of nostalgia cinema from the 80’s that hasn’t been tainted

I agree - it all links together with some lovely touches- Marty’s skateboard rolling into the plutonium case in Doc’s house right at the start- beautifully done and amazing attention to detail all through - didn’t need 2 or 3 but a great trilogy nonetheless

I was 17 in the spring of 1985, and I remember there was a huge amount of hype for Back To The Future, both on TV and in theaters, and in the summer of 1985 when it was released, it more than lived up to the hype. One thing that was certainly different from today was this was a movie that wasn’t a sequel, a remake or a reboot. It did have some brief references to other science fiction movies, but it was a film that stood firmly on its own. Bob Gale and Bob Zemeckis both should have written into their wills and in their estates, which remain set in stone long after death that NO sequel, reboot, or remake should ever be made of Back To The Future. After the 2016 Ghostbusters disaster, it’s what needs to happen.
@killermist
@killermist 3 жыл бұрын
Amen to that. There should be some clause that can be set that "This title may not ever be used again without express written consent. If I am dead, then such consent is obviously impossible and the 25+ year copyright clause should be in effect from the date of my death. And if you use it after that, and it sucks, I will haunt you (and the fanbase will too)"

One of my favorite bits of trivia is that the marquee in BTTF2's 1955 scene has all sequels showing. They did it to show that Hollywood has always had a hardon for sequel baiting

The problem with driving a DeLorean is that the general public are so ignorant about cars that they think you are driving the only one in existence - and "the one from the movie." Nobody has a clue that there are 9000 of them. People learn useless crap like how to cure diseases and yes, maths, whem obviously knowing about movies, computers and cars is far more important.

I must be the only person who vehemently hates the overrated, god awful Back to the Future films. The fact that I can't stand Michael J. Fox, and his constant irritating screaming in the films, plays a part, along with a story that makes no sense whatsoever if you bother to follow it. I'll stick to Primer and Time After Time, the two best films based on time travel ever made.
@JackWolf10
@JackWolf10 3 жыл бұрын
The issue is you’re treating it as a “time travel film” when BTTF isn’t about that. The time travel in BTTF is merely the frame upon which the characters and story are hung. Almost any time travel doesn’t make sense if you think about it too much, but Back to the Future excels due to its comedy, concept, and character arcs. It’s much less of a “what if we travelled in time” film and more of a “what if I met my parents when they were my age” film, which is where I feel its most fascinating ideas lie.
@martinhavelock5106
@martinhavelock5106 3 жыл бұрын
@@JackWolf10 But the time travel makes no sense, and it does matter in regards to the story. And I didn't find the films funny either, more irritating. I know the films are beloved, and nobody will agree with me, and that's fine, but I can't help but think if they'd have kept Eric Stolz as Marty it would have made them slightly less painful to watch.
