Eagles had squads of 35. Victorian clubs had squads of 52. Plus all the colts and reserves players. Even when the draft started the Victorian clubs had banked a lot of players (including 16 year olds) in the U/19s so they had players coming through via under 19s for years after.

I thought Woosha not playing that final was totally blown out by the media. All the tallk about him being dropped. I took it that Mick didn't think he could run out the game because of soreness. If the Eagles had have won, who knows. Woosha after another week may have shown Mick that could contribute more and had recovered from soreness issues. I think what didn't work was that I heard Mick kept it quiet until just before the game, which may have put the players off. I heard some players were shocked. In retrospect it could have been handled better in the media to stop the press doing their thing. Manage the media so to speak.
