Here, we'll take a look at one of the most versatile pieces of equipment out there - the plain old tarp. We'll first look at how to set up a tarp tent, then look at a few other configurations. Whether you're a bushcraft enthusiast, hunter, or just enjoy camping without all the burden of expensive gear, you'll benefit from knowing how to use a tarp to rig a variety of shelters. In addition to the tent we'll see in the video, you can rig a lean-to, hammock, a frame, and many other types of shelter. Here's how.

I really like the simplicity of this shelter. It’s basic, fast, and sometimes that’s what matters. I dig your channel and found you on my foray into archery. Totally stoked you have content like this too.

Great demonstration of that tarp tent set up. That's one of my favorite ways to set up a quick shelter.

I'll look forward to seeing that. I really like the idea of a canvas tarp due to it's spark/flame resistance and durability. But, man it's tough to deal with that weight when operating out of a backpack.

Coyote Works Yea, I only take the canvas tarp when packing with horses or canoe or something. It's much to heavy to backpack with.

Nice setup. I like that it's open in the front without the third leg.

Not a painters tarp. The weave is too loose. Get tent canvas which has a much tighter weave. It makes a huge difference in durability and weather resistance.

no brand name. I just picked up some canvas and made my own. There is a fellow in WA state I think that sells tarps designed for this type setup. Google "woodsman tarp" and you should find it.

one other question, can a ridgline be used instead of the poles. Or could a ridgline be used in conjuction with the poles (when there is bad weather) just to give that extra support.

Hi Clay, Good video. Keep up the work. I've used your teaching a number of times. Can you put a small stove opening in the shelter? How would a guy go about doing that?
@clayhayeshunter
@clayhayeshunter 9 жыл бұрын
You sure could. You'd need to get a heat resistant insert to sew into the canvas wherever you wanted to smoke stack to come out. You could probably fine something like that at a canvas tent supply store.
