Jeez, now I'm 71 and want my 1992 super-jet back. That was my go to ski back when we had a few rental business's . This was a super reliable ski that walked all over my highly built Kawasaki ski I had that always broke. There is a huge difference between fresh water use or salt water use. Florida salt water ate up our skis. Forgot what is was like to always ride in fresh water. Yamahas rule, used to after work throw in a new crank and pistons with just a couple of tools. Sea-doos needed a thousand tools and the salt corroded every stink'n nut and bolt. I wish I had met Erickson performance back in my days !! Now I'm wondering if I can still ride a stand up. I think I can ! Still love the square noses. Excellent video here ! Thanks y'all

There is nothing more satisfying than working on a standup ski, other than riding it after you get it running... I've owned standup skis for the better part of 40 years starting with the abysmal 550 that once running it was a blast to ride. I pretty much gave up water skiing from that point on. I've melted more motors than I can recall and spent many a late evening stuffing the spare engine in for the next day. My latest acquisition is a 1500Sxi, which is a big ski with gobs of power and cruising across the lake at 50mph is good enough for this old man. My days of subs and back flips are over and the big ski keeps me from trying even the simplest of tricks. Have fun on that Yamaha, it's the perfect ski for your wife and kids.

Love my Superjet and it was literally instant start every time for the first 5yrs at least and then just a starter relay and then i replaced the start/stop switch with a new one bc it was starting to act up. One cool thing about buying the Start/Stop Switch new from Yamaha OEM is that it includes the Nice OEM Safety Lanyard which is like 25$ alone or something and i like the oem one that has the piece to go around your wrist or to clip it on to the life jacket. Makes the price seem a little better at 150$ for the new one, complete ready to install. He's got a nice solid setup there now, its going to be an insane difference from a stock 700, because an exhaust on a 700 gives you like 20hp alone lol, nevermind the 64X 760 cylinder on there. Cograts man! Rocking the clean SN. My first SJ was SN and i wish i still had that one..

Back in the early 90's my dad bought us a pair of Kawasaki 440 stand up ski's. Good ol' fashion 2 stroke power and you were IN the water, not above it like a Wave Runner. Nothing compares to those old standups. Love it!

A really interesting video Mike. It's so good to watch someone who is so knowledgeable and professional. Having said that, it was still a wake up call hearing Mike say that while the ski is now crazy fast, it has underlined the limitations of a hull never meant to handle that much power and speed. If you are going to tame that hull in future videos, i'll be 100% sure to watch them.
@1BrianSawyer2 жыл бұрын
42:50 Mark is absolutely correct. Love watching his videos and learning from him. His channel was a huge help on my last engine build! What he's describing is basically a supercharger for a 2-stroke. If the sound waves are tuned correctly, you can stuff some of that exhaust back into the cylinder for the next combustion cycle. Not a supercharger, but similar principle.

Good info, nice setup , I have had 3 super jets if you count one that was just a hull , and 4 kawasakis over the years. I lived in southwest florida for years thousands of hours on personal water craft for real. I ran beach services for 5 years. I would play around with different ride plates and maybe nozzles before I touched the hull . The super jets hulls were great and easier to corner because they cornered flatter than the kawasakis. Wide open just bend your knees more and shift your wieght forward . My old boss had a 94 with a set close to yours , when you held it wide open and let of the gas it felt like you were putting on the brakes becuse it pulled so hard. Have fun watch out for boats and use the landyard. The old kawasakis used to circle when you crashed and you had to swim after them unless you set the idle down low, not good in the mangrove trails. Thanks great job, keep up the good work

The biggest trick on the welded on nut removal is the first weld. If you just give it a pop on the initial weld it basically seals the nut/broken bolt from anymore welding getting good penetration. Have to commit right from the get go.

37:40 "It's to tune velocity" I'm pretty sure it's purpose is to resonate at a certain wavelength (rpm) and create boost. From the studies I've seen published online, a standard-ish 2-stroke with expansion pipe will make 8 to 10 pounds of pressure above atmospheric while "on the pipe" aka, when the RPM is within the resonance match of the pipe. If you want to see an example of an expanding exhuast pipe that DOES help to tune the velocity, look at the formula 1 headers from the last several years. You will see that they come out of the engine block at a certain diameter, and after about 4 to 10 inches the primary tube will step up about 5 to 10% in size. I'm not 100% sure the science behind this but all the F1 cars do it so it must help!

Toss the whole drivetrain in a full length or even -4.3" Superfreak Badass or T1 hull, the best mod you can make to a superjet. If your looking to get the nose down on that hull so that it does not porpoise a flat extended rideplate will help. I couldn`t tell if yours was concave from the pics. You can also space the back of the plate down with washers. The intake grate can also help, a deeper top loader will sometimes help keep it controllable at WOT at the expense of a couple MPH.
