In case you didn't know, I now record all of my own music for my channel for the past year or so. If you ever thought that it sounded a bit rough, you would be right!
I started playing the Mandolin about a year and a half ago for a challenge and to play with my friend Dave. I was using all of his music as background but decided I wanted to try to record my own stuff. I still prefer his singing/guitar playing, but a lot of times my vids go better with simple minor chords and no voice. My love for creating the music has led me down the path of learning(partially) the Jaw Harp, Harmonica, Mandolin and Guitar so far.
I just recorded this tune on the backbone chords of Fisherman's blues for my next video, Tangier Lake Part 3... which I'll hopefully release in a week or two (shooting for Sept 2nd 21).
I'd prefer to record the music right in the woods, but found that I really need the help of Garage Band and iMovie to gloss over my musical flaws. I'm ok with it though as I've found recording the music almost as enjoyable as the trips themselves.
Here's what I use for my recordings:
Instruments:
Eastman 315 Mandolin
Taylor GS mini E, Walnut guitar
Marine Band in C harmonica
Jaw harp
Recording equip:
Zoom H4N pro recorder (line in for guitar and xy mic for the other instruments)
2014 Macbook Air in Garageband
Canon Rebel SL3, 50mm nifty fifty for the PiP shots, kit lens for canoe.
