From all of Marvin Gaye‘s music my gosh if young folks heard his music today I always mention this to younger folks I was born in the early 60s and I was raised with this music hearing Marvin Gaye song is on the radio when I was a little kid I fell in love with the music was raised on Motown music from the 60s to the 90s just was amazing you don’t hear that after the year 2000 as though music has gone flat with a lot of sexuality pushing this song no meaning no heart all the bands before played all their own instruments last true artist that ever lived with Prince not only did he play all his own instruments he wrote his music and he sang his own songs I first heard his music in 1979 and ever since then I had followed Prince up in till he joined God in heaven in 2016 the grand architect the music I would say Prince but you know he was inspired by Motown and all that came before 🕊

Its not sexy at all; its a tragedy. Like "What's Going On" this album too had a strong socioeconomic message. The 1970's marked the beginning of US manufacturing moving to Asia (China) and a series of massive economic downturns. Please be mindful that the pimp culture EXPLODED "(3:17) ain't it lonely out there" during this period. Marvin's character, unbothered by this reality pursues one woman, offers her security and love, but she can't bothered.

This is Marvin’s best single bar none. Just listen to the first 77 seconds and you are hooked. I love every track Marvin Gaye has ever recorded, but this does something to me that none of the other track does. Maybe it’s depth. It’s short, and kind of rushed (but it wasn’t) and I never want it to end. I cannot listen to it once. I always replay it. It’s a masterpiece. You have to listen to it, not sing along with it to appreciate it. Then sing along with it. Those who love and appreciate the track will get what I mean.
@noeltaylor35944 жыл бұрын
I remember when this first came out, remember the album cover in the store called Gibsons in McKinney, Texas. For years this was my favorite Marvin tune. I fine myself doing the back ground vocals which just add so much to the song. What a tortured soul, but the great one's seem to be that way sometimes. They see things we can't, but the spotlight gets so hot that they literally melt.
