We came to the paradise island of Palawan, El Nido in the Philippines and what a place it was! Myself and Cat hired a bike and drove around this incredible island on the hunt for content and we found it. Ben, I arrived here in the Philippines two weeks ago from San Diego California and am staying at a resort in Metro Manila, but now my girlfriend and I are visiting her family for a week on the island of Pilar in the Comotes Islands off of Leyte. You talk about no other foreigners, I'm the only foreigner on the island! One hotel and only six rooms and no WiFi, I'm using a Globe Simcard. The beaches though are amazing, blue and green water and white sand. Look up Cawit resort in Pilar.

There are a lot of Spanish words that we've adopted in our local language, a lot of times we don't even realize it's Spanish coz we already forgot to speak Spanish when Hollywood came. That's why when Kat tried to speak Spanish to the lady, she didn't understand it. We didn't adopt the Spanish word yes "si" in ourlanguage, "si" means something completely different in the local language. The US established the school system here so English is widely spoken. That's what 333 years in the seminary (Spanish rule) and 50 years in Hollywood gets you. 😄

The great part about riding a motorbike is that when you get caught in the rain, you dry out really fast especially when the sun comes out. I have rode across the US before and dont even stop when it rains. Just make sure you have a good water tight pack and some good boots. thats all you need.

go to camiguin island white sand beach similar to boracay or dinagat island (similar to coron) but less touristy. Visit Perfect cone shaped mayon volcano, calaguas and caramoan island which is not touristy with white sand beach. Visit Tablas , Romblon for plenty of caves to swimm and see marble workshops at romblon main island. Have a taste of Guimaras islands Sweet mangoes, mango capital. swimm with sardines and turtle at moalboal Cebu.

Unless you go to some place in the zamboanga area or go north to cagayan valley, you wont hear spanish phrases but the filipino language/dialects, most of them have spanish and portuguese words integration.

Useful tip: they use spanish numbers in philipines, and many words are similar to Spanish. If your missus speaks slowly, they probably get the idea

i am watching from Fort Wayne, Indiana. Try the dinugu-an, kinilaw, pancit, palabok, halo-halo, humba, pu-so, lechon, bangus, lumpia, beko, budbod, kalamay-hati, Banana Q, munggos or mung bean. Try going to dumaguete city and cebu city. Manila is just a concrete jungle.

I would suggest you can go to Davao region in the southern part of the Philippines. There's a lot of unexplored places that you can absolutely enjoy.

I like it here, visited last month Its a beautiful island, however i did get the worst shits ive had since 1999, and got bitten by something that landed me in hospital a few days later in Sydney with MRSA. Dont eat the pancit in El Nido - do eat the local taho tho. Its fantastic

​@@BackpackerBen You'll be fine there if you avoid the West-Southwesten side of Mindanao. Davao in the SE is considered the safest major metropolitan city in the Philippines.

@@BackpackerBen I would say Surigao Del Sur , it has Britania Islands , Enchanted River , Tinuy-an Falls, very foreign tourists go here. Camiguin Island is also nice, very laid back and stunning. Zamboanga City would be an alternative too , the only place in the Philippines where creole Spanish is spoken. This was used by the Spanish way back as base to conquer Mindanao , which they were not fully successful thats why some areas remained Muslim until now.

You can also visit Saranggani province where Manny Pacquiao has a huge beach property and where his wife is originally from. No one ever vistis this area but they have lots of lovely beaches, next to it is the province of General Santos , the tuna capital of the Philippines. Of course you can visit Siargao , Harald Baldr visited few years ago. Before it was destroyed by the typhoon. Is truly gorgeous breathtaking , the nature is just lovely , i heard it has recovered from the typhoon that happened in December 2021 and starting to get its beauty back. There s lots of foreign tourists here , so not sure if you want that. If you want a no go zone , where tourists dont go even Filipinos dont go there that would be Jolo,Sulu or Tawi Tawi , They are majority Muslim in this areas and might have a slightly different vibe from the rest of the Philippines. Becoming Filipino lives in Mindanao in the Davao Region and is one of the few foreign vloggers who visited Sulu and Tawi Tawi . I am not sure how safe it is to go but they have beautiful islands and beaches there too just not visited. Take care and enjoy!!
