Hey Chris, it's a great water falls. The Hero 8 Black a great camera for what I like to do. The videos with slow motion were shot in 1080p, 120 FPS. All the other videos are 2.7K or 4K and the video was exported as a 4K file. Also I do play with the lighting and contrast and color grade each clip.

I used to take my 8th graders up into the Cohutta Wilderness. So many fond memories and I can't believe how much blow down there is by watching the videos on here! OMG! There are so many wonderful trails, or there used to be, in the Cohutta. Maybe some people will go in and do some trail maintenance cuz it sure does need it. I live far away now and miss those fun weekends with my own kids and my students. Thanks for sharing this video.

Glad you enjoyed the video Tom. Cohutta is a great wilderness area. All the wonderful trails are still there, but like most areas in the southern Appalachians trail maintenance crews are having a very difficult time keeping up with all the dying hemlocks.

I hiked all 3 routes, loved all of them. The longer routes where better because of the river crossings in my opinion, but those are the longer trails, and with all the trees down, it didn’t make it easy with 60L keltys lol. Definitely worth the sight after a long hike. Don’t go in during or after a good storm, might not be able to cross some areas (except beach bottom)

Jacks River Falls is very beautiful. Having hiked all the trails in Cohutta Wilderness and some of the trails multiple times, I'm familiar with the 40 plus crossings on the Jacks River Trail and the 40 plus crossings on the Conasauga River Trail. And yes after a big storm you may find yourself trapped between two crossings.

As others have commented, excellent video work. It's like you've got a couple of assistants along helping to get the perfect shots. At one time, hiking in the Cohutta and going to Jacks Falls was one of my favorite places to go, that is, until my last trip about twenty years ago when I arrived at the falls to find about fifty other people there, including families with small children. I made a decision then that I would not go back because the place obviously had been "discovered". Prior to that, I would see very few other people on the trail or at the falls. Nothing against other people (or families) who want to enjoy nature, but I feel that part of hiking is to disconnect from the crowds, not hike into a wilderness area to get to a crowd. I don't know what day of the week you were at the falls, but I'm surprised there didn't appear to be anyone else there. The largest bear I've ever seen was in the Cohutta Wilderness. Also, one of the best knives I have is a handmade one that I found while swimming in the area at the top of the falls.

Thanks Brebug! Actually I was solo on this trip; no one helping with the videos other than a small tripod. Yea, Jacks River Falls can get very crowded and I was surprised to have the falls to myself, especially considering it was a Saturday, but it was early March.

Enjoy your videos Bryan. Living in SE TN, many are close to home. Just getting into backpacking and I have a couple of questions about footwear and foot care. I see you crossing streams in fairly cold weather. Are you hiking long in wet shoes? If so, what types of shoes do you recommend? Socks? Liner socks? How do you take care of your shoes and feet at camp? Are your shoes wet when you put them on the next morning? I’ve been on a few hikes but I’ve usually waded in sandals or had a spare pair. I want to lighten up and do more 2-3 night trips. Any advice or video suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you Jacob! Lately I've been wearing Topo trail running shoes and yes I walk long in wet shoes and socks, but the shoes mostly dry quickly and Darn Tough wool socks insulate when wet. When I get to camp I change to water proof socks to keep my feet dry from the still damp shoes.

Thanks for subscribing and watching my videos JBENHIKES! Without getting into the weeds too much, if I'm walking and talking I use 4K at 24 or 30 FPS. If I'm panning or shooting a scene as I walk I use 2.7K at 60 FPS in case I want to slow down the play speed to 50% or greater. If I intend to use slow motion I use 1080P at 120 FPS and slow down the play speed to 20% or 25%. Hope this helps!
