We started our backpacking season off hiking in a park we have avoided all these years: Algonquin! Why have we avoided it you ask: mainly it's proximity to Toronto and it is a notoriously busy place! We usually try to stay away from crowds when backpacking.
However, it's one of the few places in Ontario we haven't backpacked yet and, knowing it's the oldest and largest park in Ontario, we definitely needed to cross it off the list!
We hiked the 77km big loop through the Western Uplands. We did this loop in 4 nights, 5 days and stayed at Maggie 8, Pincher 1, Brown 1, Susan 2. We hiked between 15 and 16 kms each day and found the trail moderately challenging.
Highlights: lots of wildlife and beautiful campsites in nice clean lakes.
