I totally agree, I have never had a comfortable sleep on a inflatable mattress. That's why I bring a lightweight cot. Or the insulated one from Helinox in the winter. I also recently purchased a hammock and I go back and forth between the two depending on the terrain.

Dan, great video! Can’t agree with you more about how we should treat one another. I enjoy all your work. Keep it up!

One of your very best videos and one of the best I have ever seen about the joys of being in the great outdoors. Very envious because a) we're not yet permitted to go camping and stay overnight anywhere in the UK and b) the weather is currently foul here - it's like winter! Absolutely agree with all you say about hammock camping. I too find it far preferable to sleep in a hammock compared with sleeping on the ground.

Just bought me some bacon jerky for my backpacking trip here next weekend! Lol I hope I can find this spot! Beautiful!
@DanGoesHiking3 жыл бұрын
It's just north of the waterfall (which is on the map). The trail literally goes through the site so you can't miss it. Enjoy the bacon jerky!

@@DanGoesHiking my biggest worry are the Black Bears. Lol. I have several in my neighborhood...but the solo overnight with my Lab...that spooks me. Lol have you had any encounters along the trail?

This was a great video. Thank you for sharing. I think this is going to be a trip my brother and I will do next spring. I now need to try beacon jerky 😀 Also I am a HUGE WWII history buff my self, along with revolutionary and civil war. See you on the trail.

Also from "The Backpacking desert " also known as Chicago. I prefer to hike the Manistee side first so I can spend the night at a neat little site on the NCT. I suspect the NCT has a bunch of really good sites that nobody knows about unless you're a local or have just spent a lot of time looking. I have my eye on a sight near nettington Creek that I ran across while bushwhacking for the next time I am there. Thanks for the video enjoyed it alot.

What a beautiful trip Dan. Planning on returning to the Manistee/NCT trail with my family soon. Now you’ve really got me excited. Loving your hammock set up. Probably July and again in September. Any advice for the July timeframe? Biggest concern is bugs and crowds. Thanks for sharing your trip.
@DanGoesHiking4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Crowds were definitely plentiful, although that was more a result of the incredibly beautiful weekend. I'd recommend starting your hike early if possible to help your chances of finding a good campsite. I've never had a bad experience with bugs there. There were definitely mosquitos, but not so much that I needed bug spray. (Although my exposed campsite helped that too). I've done the loop in August a couple times and again no major bug issues. Enjoy your trip!
