[Timestamps below] Tyler and I took my dad backpacking for the first time! It wasn’t an easy trail, and I am so proud of him! If you’re from the SoCal area, I highly recommend this trail if you’re a beginner backpacker. It is the perfect way to get a taste of backpacking. I loved everything about this trip, and would do it again in a heartbeat!

Congrats on your successful ascent, especially your dad! This was a super helpful video, you captured all the details, including each section of the trail that I'm interested in knowing about. I have this trek on my to-do list, including spending a night at Round Valley. The campground is nicer than I imagined.

Nice video! I did the opposite. This was my daughter's first backpacking trip. She was 12. We did it in May and the weather forecast showed sunny and temperature around 60 degrees. It started snowing a little as we were setting up camp. My daughter had never seen snow falling (southern California girl) so she thought it was ash from a fire. Wrong. It got down to 28 degrees that night. She was not a happy camper. She hasn't gone backpacking since.

Thanks for this video! One question I have is, when hiking from the campsite to the peak, how do you secure your gear that is left back at the campsite? Is it not usually an issue when backpacking? Thanks :)

So far I have had no issues leaving my gear behind, and it is a usual practice of backpackers to do so! I do keep valuables like phone, wallet, and keys with me at all times though =)

Been backpacking 50 years. Never had an issue with gear left in camp, and never heard of someone having an issue. I am sure it happens, and how far you are in probably makes a difference.
