Hey NIck and Jen. You made the best videos for this hikes in El Chalten. I am going in late October and I was planning to camp in Poincenot and Dagostini. Do you think a 0F sleeping bag is okay?
@OutsideAndStuff6 жыл бұрын
Hi Pablo. Since October is their Spring time. I would think that should be ok. If I was going in October I would probably bring my Marmot Lithium (0F) bag with my Thermarest NeoAir Xtherm pad.
@internationalnews8896 жыл бұрын
Hi.Yes I would also bring a Klymit insulated pad. Thanks a lot!

Hello, Nick. I found your El Chalten videos very interesting. I intend to go there soon, did they record the points for the GPS? If so, could you make it available? Thank you!
@OutsideAndStuff7 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately I did not log the GPS tracks on this. But the trails are extremely well traveled and there is a ton of signage.

Hi Nick and Jen, Watching this is like re-visiting old friends. What time of year were you there? The videos were posted in March/April 2016, but we were there in mid to late March and all the trees were starting to get their fall colors so I have to guess you were there a few weeks earlier, say late Jan or Feb.
@OutsideAndStuff7 жыл бұрын
Hi Rick, we were in El Chalten till about March 12th before flying down to Ushuaia for a couple days before heading back to the PNW.
@CyclistRick7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Nick. Amazing that just a few days can have such a marked affect in the foliage.

You are welcome! I think we were starting to see signs right before we left. Reminded us of the foliage changes we get in the PNW.

Lovely...I miss the rock jumble. Did you guys camp the entire trip?
@OutsideAndStuff8 жыл бұрын
+Patrick Caple (No Trail Required) We only camped for the 5 days when we were backpacking. The rest of the trip was spent at various hostels and airbnbs.
@NoTrail8 жыл бұрын
Ah yes...but no beer down there?
@OutsideAndStuff8 жыл бұрын
Patrick Caple Sober for five days, very difficult. But you can be damn sure Jen and I now know the best places to get beer in El Chalten. :)

+Outside & Stuff you can drink the water?
@OutsideAndStuff8 жыл бұрын
Macario Leyva Yes! There are no beavers in this part of Argentina, so there the water is pure.

Hey Nick Im going trekking El Chalten next weekend for 4 days. I would love to know about your cooking situation, can you make fires at the free campsites or did you bring a supply of your own little gas cooker?? Awesome videos they really helped me a lot :)
@OutsideAndStuff7 жыл бұрын
Hi Alesha, campfires are banned inside the park due to the extreme wind and dry conditions. The good news is, is that you can easily find the stove fuel in one of the many outdoor shops in El Chalten. Also, if you are staying in a hostel, they typically have leftover fuel cans that backpackers donate when they leave. Hope that helps!

These were all shot with a GoPro Hero 4 Black. And I only used the skeleton back. The stick I am using is a Smatree telescoping selfi stick with a tripod base. www.amazon.com/Smatree-SmaPole-Q3-Telescoping-Session/dp/B00XN1P9QI/

I would like to know if I have to book camp poicenot or if you can just camp for free?
@OutsideAndStuff8 жыл бұрын
All of the campsites in the park are free of charge. There's a lot of room at Poincenot, and there is even some overflow camping down the bank, closer to the river.
@johnklug66698 жыл бұрын
you pay for that camp spot or is this area pretty cool with backpackers just bushing it?
@OutsideAndStuff8 жыл бұрын
All of the camp sites in the national park are free. The only time you spend money is to enter the park. With the exception being El Chalten. This city is in the park so there is no fee to enter. It's quite the hippy experience. :)

nice! I will go on march 2017.. could you give some advices about the clothes that i need for the trip?
@OutsideAndStuff7 жыл бұрын
Your biggest worry should be waterproofing. The weather in Patagonia can change in an instant, even if there is no forecast for rain, it can happen. My advice would be to bring layers, it will be cold at night, and could be hot in the day. But definitely bring a rain shell, and a waterproof bag for the inside of your pack. The outside rain shell will not stop the Patagonian rain. :)
