Red River Gorge is a part of the Daniel Boone National Forest in Kentucky. It is designated a geological area as it is well known for it's natural rock arches the most famous of these being Grays Arch.

We went to Shenandoah in late Oct of 2019 and it was soooooo crowded. It really took away from the tranquil experience that I've come to know and love about NPs and nature. ANyway, we were gonna do Smokies and Mammoth Cave nps in May 2020 but crossed off Smokie s (too darn crowded) Thanks to KZbin and this video, we're doing Mammoth and Red River Gorge geological area! I'm so stoked! Thanks for this awesome video and thanks for NOT editing out your mini panic. It makes us less experienced hikers know what not to do plus helps us to know that even the most experienced CAN panic if they allow themselves! Humility wins every time! Thanks again! Your camp spot was at the exact location of the last recorded bear attack in the State of KY. Interesting, I also took some pictures of bear tracks in the snow right at Silverman's Arch. Glad you enjoyed your visit. Next time you're planning a trip here, you should talk to some locals before heading out or maybe head over the KYWilderness web site. There are lots of unmarked trails, arch's, and overlooks all over the RRG.

I like your way of showing us your route on the map, it's a nice visual and reference point. The Smart Water bottles are great! They're lightweight and long so I don't have to reach far behind me to get it and it's easier to put back in the pack. I also like the sip spout on them.

Another great vid! My first night in a hammock was thunderstorms and 50+mph wind gusts, sounded like a freight train the entire night, but I was in my backyard.. Wow - this was a really nicely done video. My son and I really enjoyed watching this together. We will be heading down this year with our Overlanding gear to do some off roading, hiking and camping. We thought and were glad that you included the pieces of video on top during the rain storm. It's important to show that even with seasoned hikers such as your self and with all the planning that nature can always present challenges. You picked an ambitious route. And, yes, it's easy to get turned around on those ridgetops. Hanson's is the farthest point on the ridge. There are at least 2 other overlooks near it.

I watched this video 2 or 3 times the week leading up to my Red River Gorge trip, and I'm glad I did... My friend and I were about 8 miles in on our second day and about a mile from Gray's Arch. I was hiking faster than him so I just pushed on and planned to wait for him at the Arch. Well, it wasn't smart of me and he took a wrong turn, splitting us up by about 2 miles, with no cell service. I was freaking out, thinking that he had fallen and been hurt or something, but I remembered the way you were at Hanson's point and just "stopping and collecting your thoughts" and I thought through it and, long story short, I found him. Thanks! Awesome videos.

Well done your hiking videos are the best. I suspect the pole is to hang a lantern. I lost the trail in Yosemite exploring and I know how you felt! I was not 100 yds off but couldn't see it since there was little foliage or trees so everything looked the same. I only found it after seeing a couple guys thankfully since we were farther up than most people went.

I love the Red River Gorge area, and even though it's a six hour drive for me too, I go every chance I get. I am still working through some of your older videos and really enjoyed this trip with you. Add Auxier Ridge to your next trip, it's got more smiles per mile than any trail in the park, in my opinion, and it's 6-8 mile loop is home to my favorite campsite ever with a good water source in the Auxier Branch. The Red River Underground have a KZbin channel that show many, many hidden trails, arches and views to enrich your trip. You would also love the Indian Staircase/Council Chamber/Cloudsplitter loop, you have the legs for it, and that is almost all off-trail.

Do the gaters help? / How do they hold up to crossings?

The gaiters are just meant to keep rocks and debris out of your shoes. The ones I wear aren't waterproof they will soak up a little water from wet brush.

The most famous is NOT Gray's Arch. The most famous is Natural Bridge!

Natural Bridge isn't exactly a part of the Gorge. Rather it's near it, to the south, off Route 11.

If I remember correctly, Koomer Ridge has good repelling sites.

Hey Jason! I wondered how do you do the little animated maps thing where you show us what your hiking plan is ? You use the map with red trails kind of animated to show your hiking plan. what program do you use for that feature in your videos? Super cool and your videos have basically shaped what we buy and how we hike. Thanks so much!

Outdoor Adventures One more question, I know how to use the KZbin cards to show a link to a different video in the upper right corner of a video I make but how do you do the thumbnail videos that are actually playing without audio in that fashion? Like when you point to a spot saying "Watch my review on this hammock right here" then you point and the thumbnail is playing for a few seconds where you pointed. Sorry for the bother but I really like that

you gotta do the video through video editing software then link it later using annotations in youtube. you should check out some editing software tutorials. i recommend adobe premiere

What about the constantly wet feet? I know they drain but still seems uncomfortable for long distance. Cool area though...would like to see. Why do you not carry some kind of GPS device...phone with map app for when you need to get back on track?

I have 2 pairs of those...they can't dry that fast...I would still take mine off to cross...I hate wet feet unless I'm walking down a creek comtinuously
