Hey man, I just wanted to say that I've missed your videos. Great information on gear, and it's so interesting to see people backpacking in somewhat flat places since I live out in the West. I think I've sent a couple of your review videos, especially the pillow one, to every hiking person I know. I hope all is well, and thanks for the previous efforts!

Hey Dan, long time subscriber here… thinking about a last ditch hike at Fife Lake and came across your video (again). I miss your videos as I am sure many of us do… you should post an update, don’t worry how long its been… this is internet land no one cares :). Hope all is well (and hit me up if you are ever looking to do another MI trip)!

It is a good loop, beautiful trails out that way. Oh for anyone that in not from Michigan FYI Recreation Passport is required for vehicle entry into Michigan state parks, recreation areas, state forest campgrounds, most boating access sites and state trailheads.

Glad you posted what you had of that hike. I had a similar thing happen to me a few week ago but was able to retrieve some footage of a 5 mile hike. So you inspired me to post what I had in a few weeks. Merry Christmas Dan🧑🎄

Thanks for sharing, Dan! I had this on my list of hikes to complete but never got around to it.

I have heard Aquamira can freeze in single digit temperatures. Common fix for it is to just keep the drops in your pocket so your body temperature keeps it warmer than its freezing point. The Aquamira site says it is also freeze-thaw safe. Thanks for showing us the portions of your trip you could. Looking forward to the next one.

I've been looking forward to this video. Sorry about your phone. What did you think about the loop? It's not as scenic as the MRT but still nice. Make sure you try the Jordan loop this summer.
@DanGoesHiking3 жыл бұрын
I enjoyed it. Definitely not as scenic as the MRT, but still a pleasant walk for anyone who simply enjoys the act of hiking. I appreciated the fairly flat terrain. Sometimes it's nice not to be huffing and puffing the whole time. And yeah, Jordan loop is on my list!

Thanks for sharing this video! Very cool! I’m planning a trip there soon. One question, the site where you stayed looks like it was on the east side of 131, before the campground, correct? I haven’t dispersed camped in a while and was planning to camp where I think you did. Nevertheless, thank you for the video! (And I totally feel your pain on the battery issues!!)
@DanGoesHiking3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Actually it was West of 131, and shortly north of the state campground. (almost directly north of where the train tracks intersect)

Another very watchable video Dan. Great camp set up and camp fire. It's odd how sleep is often better in a cold environment when insulated and warm. My medical mind hypothesises about cold inspired air entering the lungs, or cold air contacting the face inducing some ancient signalling to promote deep and satisfying sleep. An outdoors sleep in winter has consistently been of a better quality than the broken sleeps that occur in a centrally heated bedroom. You'd best pack your Anker 10,000 mAh battery next time, so you can recharge your phone. Same thing happened to me some while ago and I've always carried a back-up battery ever since. 10,000 mAh for short trips, or a 20,000mAh for longer duration hikes. The carry weight is worth it. England is struggling with COVID and so long distance walks ain't happnin'. I've been busy fitting out a Ford Transit Custom Trail van. When completed, Sharon can enjoy trips away too (she's not too keen on thru-hiking and wild camping). 👍

I agree about sleeping in cold weather. Always refreshing! I actually did bring my Anker, but my phone was so cold it wouldn't take a charge. 🥶 If I was patient I could've warmed it in my pocket for awhile and tried again, but I was frustrated so I just said 'screw it'. Hopefully you'll get to do some long distance hikes in 2021.

Hey there! Do you happen to have a .gpx track of this hike? I haven't been able to find much--even in Gaia. Thanks.
@DanGoesHiking2 жыл бұрын
I don't unfortunately! But you can find it in the Hiking Project app. It doesn't come up as Fife Lake Loop, so you'll have to manually find it on the map and zoom in. It's part of an NCT segment on the east side and the Michigan Shore to Shore trail on the west.

Do the drops make the water taste different ?
@DanGoesHiking3 жыл бұрын
Nope! Can't taste a thing. They claim it actually improves the taste somewhat.

Awesome ! I'll try it.

There's a good video titled, "How To Use Your PHONE For HIKING videos" on the Dan Goes Hiking KZbin channel; you should check it out. Thanks for posting your hike. Happy Holidays to you and yours!
