Disabled vet with two small dogs, been hiding for five years in rural California. I don’t do well around strangers anymore. I’m jealous I need to get out and about in the backwoods. Waiting for spring. Thinking about Montana. Happy trails, travel safe.

Wow, I can't believe what that canyon and trail is like now. It's good to see the old smoke stack is still standing. In 1970, my then-new wife and I hiked up there for a look-see. Sometime later they rebuilt the road. Then in 1973 we drove up there and camped for a couple of days. At that time there was nothing there but stone cabin frames. The only vehicle we found was an old wrecked jeep off to the side of the road. I would love to visit up there again. But I'm now 78 years old. The mind is willing, but the body isn't!

# 3 mountain life, my folks bought a lot on Lake Cavanaugh in 1949, dad started us off in an Army tent, about 15' square. There was an old oil drum ? square, that became our stove. Four car batteries supplied power for a couple lights, after all we were only one of a dozen or so lots sold at that time. I was age six. Out house on the hill,, water from a well dug near the lake down about 8 or 10 feet. I was too young to know or care. Galvanized garbage can on a platform and a hose to the house supplied water for the sink and kitchen. A great vacation spot for many years.

Now that's a cabin! The tub is a little tricky. You have to get the tank about half full get it boiling then turn the water back on and slowly fill the tub as the cold water mixes with hot water. It takes a little practice, but once you get just right, the water comes out nice and hot. I've heard about that cabin and can't wait to hike up there. There's so many places in that area that are worth hiking in to see. But the cabin sure makes a great base camp for spending several days there. Thanks for the video review Sarah, and I'd even put in a few hours doing some repairs on the place. It's not often that we can hike into a place that nice. Guess it's too much of a hike for the yahoo's to make. You didn't say anything about the sky? Was it too cloudy? Great video anyhow. And some interesting stories are waiting to read!

Friend took me to her remote cabin. She had an old clawfoot tub she used as a bath tub. She used a propane tank to heat it. She had these tubes running the length and one on each end with holes drilld in them. The water pump was right there too. She fired that puppy off. She had a plank to sit on inside so you didn't fry your cheeks. In the middle of a cedar Grove . I was waiting for her to start cutting veggies and put in with me. It started to snow after a bit. Absolutely wonderful

WH, you made the reverse mistake that people make, calling antlers horns. BH/Dall Sheep have horns(As do American "Antelope "). Made of keratin, as are fingernails. All members of the deer family (deer, moose, elk and caribou) have antlers, essentially bone. Antlers are deciduous and horns are not. That sheep had a nice full curl. Nice cabin in the sky.

I remember sometime around 1985 there was a washout in Beveridge canyon as well. I wasn't there when it happened but it came close to washing the cabin away - the outside wall had about five feet high of rock & mud piled onto it. Some of the boulders were about four feet in diameter, The switchback at the cabin was totally gone, the road leading to the cabin was washed out at the mouth of the canyon.

Trick is getting the water to fill down the line and let in fill back into your boiler. Once all lines are filled, basically equalling presures at the systerine. Then, you'll also have cabin water plus continuously allowing water to flow into the tank, which can be regulated by turning the valve.
