BACKPACKING to SNOWMASS LAKE COLORADO

My brother, good friend and I decided to do an overnight backpack trip to snowmass lake in Colorado via the maroon snowmass 1975 trail after originally planning on doing the capital creek loop. Unfortunately, my brother fell prey to altitude sickness and we only were able to make it to snowmass lake before making the difficult decision to turn around and head back the next day. This decision, as tough as it was, didnt rob us of our experience of the Colorado backcountry. We walked amongst gorgeous aspen along the snowmass creek with incredible views of many species of wildflowers. This hike affords big game wildlife viewing opportunities from black bear to moose to mountain lions. Snow mass lake hosted a great deal of very sizeable trout making it an excellent backcountry lake for fishing. Be aware of the log crossing at ~ 6 miles as it can be difficult to follow the trail at that point. You will have to cross that pile of big logs. Without a backpack its not too bad but with a backpack it can be challenging.
