Always amazes me some people balk at carrying an extra kg for their tent, but happily carry 5 cans IPA 🤣 priorities I guess. Good review and we’ll thought out tent. Vango are highly rated even here in Australia. Have the Halo and Starav tents myself.

Fair point mate. I personally wouldn't see the extra kilo as the biggest issue. More pack size. Looks a great tent, just definetly to big for a solo wild camp in my view
@steviesteve750 Жыл бұрын
Agreed, I usually fit 2kg worth of beer or wine in my sack for the outbound trip, plus 2Kg of water. I've been serioulsy considering the halo pro 200, as it's a similar design, but packs smaller; that's the issue I have with the Tryfan, it takes up too much pack room.

@@BackpackingUK hi.. Watched lots of your reviews. This vango trifan, I have a question. How waterproof do you think it is without the outer fly sheet attached? I've ordered one with a view to put a smaller strip of ripstop nylon over the top. For years I used a similar vango inner (viper 200) for beach camping/festivals in hot countries, with the great design features like pockets etc. This looks a bit heavier so trying to diy a lighter version. Advice greatly appreciated!

First proper review of this tent I've seen, got one earlier this year and absolutely love it because it is roomy and versatile. The weight doesn't bother me that much for the price I got it for (£130). Got the Tryfan 200 groundsheet which also enables you to pitch outer only to quickly shelter you from the elements. Cheers for the review 👌

Nice review, and an intriguing tent. Superficially looks a bit like the OEX Rakoon 2.1 (which I now have and think is great) but it seems like a lot of thought has gone into the doors and ventilation. Definitely a 2-man jobbie due to the weight and pack size, but I reckon there’s a market for this, especially for couples or for parent+one kid trips. Anyway, good vid, cheers.

I've got the Rakoon too. This is basically a slightly larger, heavier duty version. However, I would say the Rakoon is a better backpacking tent because of it's weight.

I really like the design and features of some of the Vango tents but what puts me off buying one for wild camping with my 2 dogs is the colour green they use for the fly and the dreadful orange used on the inner tent. These colours are hardly wild camping friendly. Vango please make an Army Green or Olive Green colour outer and a black inner.
@deaneager2 жыл бұрын
I think there's a strange dichotomy about tent weight in the backpacking/wild camping community. In one breath people will describe a tent above 2kg as, "heavy," but then make all sorts of justification for why they need a Hilleberg Allak 2 and footprint! Logic dictates (generally speaking) that roomier, sturdier tents will weigh more, but it seems to be considered a bad thing, unless you're paying hundreds of ££'s more for it! I have an MSR Elixir 2, and a Hubba Hubba NX. If there's going to be stormy weather then I'm taking the Elixir over the Hubba Hubba, all day long.

Such a shame it’s so heavy…. I fully understand why but for the size there are still things like the cloud peak 2 that offer around the same space for under 2kg although obviously not quite as rigid. That said, the CP2 does well in the wind and has 3 poles, yet still keeps the weight down. They need to make this exact tent but 2kg and scaled down a bit.
