I buy one game from Gamestop every year: the MLB the Show collector's edition, which is a Gamestop exclusive. This year I thought to myself, "why am I driving 15 minutes to a store to pick this up when I can have it shipped to my doorstep?" I would work there if I was in high school or college and wanted a part time job, but it's definitely not a career.

Ok, yes, retail brick and mortar is closing due to a lot of factors. 1. Rent for these spaces are going up and it’s harder for the companies to make a profit, 2. The products that these companies sell cost more than other online companies and many shoppers are becoming smarter because they are comparing prices, 3. Employee moral is down in a lot of these stores and they are struggling financially as well, and 4. This Coronavirus pandemic will be the death of all brick and mortar stores because everyone is going to be afraid of going outside and catching the virus. The stock market has crashed this week and it was a worse crash than the one in 2008.

They suck with their collectables. I had preordered online a star wars black series shocktrooper a few months ago. It never arrived. It was cancelled. Luckily I always pass by inside any gamestop i see to check if they have any exclusive figures. This is not the first time they cancel a preorder on me weeks after everyone else has gotten theirs.

crazy part at my local gamestop only one worker was working it surprises me when the manager knew right people to hire but they end up leaving, also my local best buy went out of business due the owner didn't want to keep paying the building rent

My local GameStop is closing and having a liquidation sale which still doesn’t beat Amazon prices when looking through yesterday. I felt sad for the store manager and for myself really. I remember buying Halo 2 from that store I been going there for a good part of my life and talking to the workers there about games. Good times. It will all be over and shopping online for games just is not as fun as going to the store browsing. I guess I’m just old.

Yeah I think the small town ones will probably not be hit as hard. Single market stores tend to not be as effected in any retail company.

Just got an email that one of my local stores is closing and doing a liquidation sale. 20% all PS4 games, 30% off new Xbox One games and 20% off used Xbox One games

$14-$15 for a Gamestop managers job? That's it!??? Hell. I make just as much working an overnight security guard job at a nice cozy locked down site literally doing nothing, sitting on my butt, and streaming vids till shift change and I'm hourly+overtime. Salary is a sucker's bet. No wonder people aren't lined up around the block for those "Prestigious" Gamestop managers positions.

It used to be salary for like 48k+ a year. But certain laws pertaining to salary employees caused them to do that.

@@BPGRYT Don't forget. A lot of cities and states are forcibly hiking their minimum wages to $15/hr and beyond. That is causing serious pressure on the wage chain on up. As most companies can't give full, across the board, pay increases for all their workers whenever the lowest paid employees are given wage hikes. In many places. The manager is making just a few measly bucks over the lowest paid employee. Only with more work and responsibilities. A lot of people are just saying screw that! and bumping themselves down into lower positions. Where they get almost as much but without all that headache and responsibility. This is why in the long term... Companies will ultimately have no choice but to automate and mechanize existing facilities and have an A.I. oversee daily operations.

dude I haven't stepped foot in one of teh gamestops since 2010. I was disgusted when one of the clerks goaded my ex to sign up for a rewards cards so we could get the game informer. I used to read that in the bathroom only lol. seriously. been ordering everything on line for years and years. and from what I've heard, cheaper too!

It had to happen eventually. Just as digital distribution/streaming killed Blockbuster, Hollywood video, Tower Records, FYE, and so on. It's now coming for Gamestop. It took 20+years. Technology has finally caught up to brick and mortar video game stores. For what it's worth. Gamestop was the last man standing.

@@BPGRYT The only retailers I see surviving the Retail Apocalypse will be Walmart and Target for the sole reason they carry groceries, medicine, and other essential items. Any other chain. Especially specialty chains such as Gamestop will fall to the wayside. Also... I can see Bestbuy folding within another 3-4 years tops. Especially when Walmart can undercut them on electronics and take a loss so long as it's offset by grocery and essential item sales.

What boggles my mind is why does Gamestop by and accept trades and give money away when in fact they are not getting that money back by selling those trade ins. The business model is fucked tbh. Why buy a phone from someone when the probability of GS selling that phone to someone in the future is bleak. There are no customers in the stores because they are waiting for the liquidations on games, used systems, and collectibles.

Retail is dying.....jcprnney, macy's, gap, dillards..etc. These are overstretched companies that have to shut down half their stores to survive. Walgreens and Cvs are next.

This happen due to technology. Many americans work long hours. Its just more convenient to order stuff online on a phone and not waste 3 hours of BS traffic back and forth from the store on a day off or workday. It actually saves us time if we order online and have our items shipped by our days off. Convenience beats it all.

Drug stores I think will stick better than clothing/department retailers because they sell a lot of things that are impulse purchases or that you don't want to wait even a day to have delivered.

the gamestop by me cheats they claim that because they are competing with digital downloads they are allowed to have their midnight launch parties as early as 9pm there are two gamestops in direct driviing distance and 3 others that are out of the way but not impossible to get to the main one i got to always has a semi crowd everytime i go it hopefully that one isnt purged . conversing with the employees about the games is why i like to go there

Gamestop as a whole is dying th as t doesnt mean all stores are vacant. It means unfortunately the vast majority are. Not all associates hound for numbers, but ones who aren't hitting them can easily loose their jobs.

It would help if they just stop targeting big cities over small town areas. Because who wants to travel 100 miles when they find a stable small town that is surrounded by other small towns which are about 10 to 30 minute away over a hour and a half drive where it's easier and cheaper to order online then travel over 100 miles to buy games.

It has one of the most psychologically terrifying levels I've ever played and was a lot of fun trying to beat the levels using different routes and methods especially on the highest difficulty. The world was beautifully built and while the story wasn't the best it was well told and that just isn't something every game from it's generation has. It was better on the PS4 than the PS3 for sure though.
