Love these videos! Keep 'em coming. I'm not normally a fan of automatics, but with all the other "stuff" you have to do to run one of these trucks and the conditions you're working in, I think I'd be okay with one.

Demont Washington The automatic sure make my life easier when plowing snow.

haligan125, most plow trucks are spec'd with lower gears, which is essential when plowing up a mountain grade while pushing several inches of snow. Auto shifts are just the wave of the future, and for snow plow operators, they actually make the job safer.

I feel like I want to go plowing snow now, Waaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Living in Maine I had a few Plow trucks and loved every second of it and only those close to me knew I would have done it for nothing it was that much fun especially in Blizzard conditions it made my heart pound like I was dancing for an Hour, Hehehehehehe!

It won't be long now! I hope we get a few good storms this winter so I can make more fun videos. Be sure to stay tuned for more and be sure to check out my other snow plowing videos!

Mines a 10 speed with a 3406E Cat some of the newer trucks are but most have the 8LL ...blah that's why I won't part with my truck lol, love your channel I have vids of trucking in Nova Scotia when I used to drive for a fella in the city, it's nice to see familiar land marks and Nova Scotia plows!
@JimHowDigsDirt10 жыл бұрын
Thanks, glad you like them. I would think an automatic would be something you'd want working in the city with all the stop and go traffic. Maybe I'm just getting old and lazy, but I just love the automatic. I switched routes this winter just so I could drive one. I don't really care for the single joystick in the newer trucks. I find them too slow and can be a bit confusing at times.

I don't disagree with driving an automatic lol I wish they'd hurry up and put me in one but till this girl quits I doubt it will lol, I drove a kenworth t330 automatic was so nice in the city, I was wondering what happened to the sterling that was a nice looking truck but if you switch routes you must have to switch trucks?

Hellos from a fellow graveyard shift plower. I work the interstate though, no back roads. Is that a 14 foot plow, seems a little big for back roads with oncoming traffic.

I never measured it , but it's standard size for the trucks we run here!

What do those Volvos have for motors ? I seem a lot of Mack titans and a couple western stars around here look big and beefy! I drive a Kenworth T-800 for the city of Halifax wish I could be out on the highways
@JimHowDigsDirt10 жыл бұрын
The Volvo has a Volvo motor and produces 430 HP and an Alison automatic transmission. I don't blame you for wanting to be on the highway. Must be a nightmare plowing in the city. Are your trucks automatic?

Any tips for avoiding hidden bumps? I plow streets with a one ton and I can't go nearly as smooth, my blade trips every half a block. I don't think I am doing anything wrong, maybe just a shitty route or the bigger trucks just handle them better?
@JimHowDigsDirt8 жыл бұрын
+currjo10 The plows on these trucks are fairly heavy, especially when you have a blade full of snow. I think the bigger trucks have an advantage!
@currjo108 жыл бұрын
+JimHowDigsDirt Maybe that's it too, we have not had much snow here in Boston this year. The most I plowed was probably 4 inches this year. I am going to replace this trip springs when I get a chance, hopefully that will help.

@JimHowDigsDirt5 жыл бұрын
It wasn't on because I just drove up the hill from our plow shed to get a load of salt. I always wear my seat belt and feel naked if I don't have it on, lol.
