She claimed that they (Toy Matinee) were a bunch of guys who fell through the cracks. And then was later instrumental herself in helping them again fall through the cracks. I don't think she picked up on the irony.

I find it quite interesting Bill Botrell did so much to get her started, but she dumped him very quickly after the first album because he was a perfectionist and drove her crazy on that album... which to this day is probably her best album. She never again worked with the Tuesday Night Music Club as far as I know (did not know about the tour band issue mentioned here as that probably did not help).

@@Buc_Stops_Here I too heard they tried something after Tuesday Night Music Club, and that Botrell walked out on her on the first day. “I now know,” says Bottrell, “why Padgham, the most successful producer of the ’80s, missed the main point of this chick whom he was working with.” And? “Well, she’s fucking hopeless. She’s obnoxious. I mean, she was probably needling him to death, you know, nagging him to death.”

Show business definitely has healthy bits of ego, so I'm sure there's a middle ground to the story that wasn't clearly painted by either side. Interesting to note, if you look at the writing credits for her first album, there were HEAVY contributions from the guys in the TNMC (an incredibly talented bunch), as well as playing the majority of the instruments...so it seems that yeah, they WERE a substantial part of writing and recording the tunes from her first album. I doubt they got the album writing/playing credits at the time just because Bottrel (the producer) and Crow were being nice. And to be fair, they (the TNMC gang) weren't part of her subsequent releases which had a fair amount of good material as well, so there are plenty of indications it wasn't just TNMC that made her career. Sad to see the arguments and egos get in the way of just recognizing a good record.

Wow - how easy it seams to get rid of the skeletons in your closet when you tell the story as the shiny celebrity. Get into the truth of the "Tuesday Music Club" and how she presented the ideas of the boys "that fell through the cracks" as her own - culminating to the lie she told Letterman, that "Leaving Las Vegas" was autobiographic! And then hear her talk about authenticity - she made a great couple with the equally authentic Lance Armstrong!
