I remember when this album came out. People kept saying they were a Pearl Jam ripoff. The reality is that this band is vastly superior to Pearl Jam and they don't sound like them anyways.

Agreed. The De Leo brothers are vastly superior in terms of musical knowledge and musicianship, listening to and absorbing everything from early metal, 80s british alternative, 60s british invasion rock, 70s glam/ hard rock, punk, then the further you get into their music knowledge, you'll see that they listened to Brazilian jazz, bossa nova, 60s/70s american country, pop, etc..You can clearly hear those influences in all the little nuances of their playing, in Scott's vocals and look, and the over all sound of the original 4 line up. Pearl Jam, especially Eddie Vedder, are more into the folky/blues rock, Neil Young, and other more straight forward, far less experimental type of rock. STP have changed their sound on almost every album while retaining their signature sound, just as Zeppelin did. This is why there is no comparison.

So true. STP had such diversity of great songs, Pearl Jam has a lot of great songs, but you can’t listen to many of them in one sitting, they all sound too similar

I know. I saw them here in Nola for Voodoo in 08. They played for 3 hours and I realized when Scott said somewhat jokingly " We got the hits motherfucker!" That damn, they been playing 3 hours and its been all these Huge hits that are pretty good. Then to think all these awesome songs that weren't singles or songs that weren't even released that were so good.

Started listening to STP back in 1999 after hearing a friend play them on his Panasonic mini hi fi system. I think the first STP song i heard was Plush or Interstate Love Song. Sad how Scott left this earth but he will live on in the music STP and Velvet Revolver recorded with him. Core is such a great heavy record. The record helped me through a few break ups with gfs that ive gone through. Just the heavy guitars pounding drums and smooth and rough vocals all blend together to make this giant sound.

Love that they love and grew up listening to Yes! I got to see them on my birthday! I turned 19 in 1985 and I simply loved yes! Later in 2002 New Years Eve bash I got to see stop and just like Yes they were so tight live! I’ve seen at least 120 some odd bands and live those two and maybe early Megadeth and black label society and Dio all top 5. No particular order cause it doesn’t matter! Always loved the drums in STP just want to say. Scott's voice could make your spine chill but Eric's drums were what gave it (to me) that persistent march into the unknown. To see him with the Bonzo shirt I get it now, I get the way he laid it down. Whole band was amazing though. Learning some of Dean's licks I see where his head was at and I always liked his approach to the guitar, and I typically HATE chorus pedals.

In my opinion, Core gave a resurgence of classic rock in the early 90's that classic rock was about in the late 60's into the 70's; that died out in the 80's because of the hair metal band sound, ( I am not saying nothing bad about the hair metal bands lots of great bands in the 80's) but the sound that CORE represented was like bring forth Led zeppelin into the 90's to my generation. STP Core was a great Album gentleman as that 17-year-old that first bought that CD in 1992 thank you for defining my childhood. I still have the CD today in fact the entire STP collection. I have requested my STP CORE cd be cremated with me so I can take it into the afterlife to listen to it there.
