One of the best mini-series that ever aired on TV. I watched it when it first aired - I was 10 years old and learned so much!

I second that. I saw this when it aired on television and it has stuck with me since then. Outstanding cast.

Oh my goodness, you're right. I totally forgot about that. Uggams played Kizzy and Cole played the woman who married her son "Chicken George"...hehe. Whatever happened to Ben Vereen anyway?

@ODearMichaelO - Because it's the story of a mother and daughter who served as maids in the White House over a period of 50 years.

Lee Grant won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in Shampoo and is The Mother of Dinah Manoff (Marty) in Grease and Lee would also win an Emmy For Directing a Movie about A Family who became Homeless.

I think this was probably Leslie Nielsen's final dramatic performance before he turned to all comedy (i.e. Airplane, Naked Gun). Younger generations have no memory of him playing it totally straight in film roles.
@epaddon7 жыл бұрын
No, he continued to do some dramatic guest shots on TV and in cable movies prior to Naked Gun in 1988. His last dramatic role was in "Nuts" (1987) when he tries to kill Barbra Streisand after she refuses him a second session of sex.
