I took my truck to the ford dealer for service and let them know my camera started to have issues. The service rep told me to not fix because it could take days and cost up to $2,000.00. Great video! I rarely use my parking brake, but this past weekend I used it a couple times while in the mountains. When we got home my camera no longer worked. I've had intermittent issues with the rear camera for a few months now. Of course it started working right before I took it to the dealership for another issue. After a trip this weekend where I did use the parking brake a few times the camera wasn't working when we went to leave. I watched your video and 60 seconds later it is fixed! I didn't even have to unplug the harness, just had to push it in and felt it seat again. Thanks for the clear instructions, nice job!

Holy Moly - All I did was push in on the grey wire harness above the Parking/Emergency Brake and WALLA! Saved $300 plus. Great video brother!

Just had some work done on my F-350. The backup camera isn't working. I had some air bags installed, and the controls are mounted exactly in the location around the parking brake. Thanks to you, I can fix the problem in a few minutes.

I fixed it!!! Take the ford emblem off the tailgate disconnect the camera and disconnect the next connector under the tailgate strip, that wiring harness sheathing off and expose all the wires you will find a bear stranded aluminum wire, cut it at both ends and put a piece of shielded stranded wire in their splice it back together, rapid an electrical tape, plug it in and it’ll work

No one else has made the connection to the harness, all others go to the fuse, or reset. I found mine in this harness on the Left side ( gray harness) but I cannot un plug the thing because of the tight spot it’s in. Need a video about best practices to un plug this plug. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

All their cars have the camera problem too. Tons of posts on the mustangs, the fusions & the focuses. It’s common that the camera is fine and turns out to be lack of grounding most of the time. There’s been reports of software failures as well as harness failures, and only a few times I’ve read a new cam fixed it. But I’ve read dozens of times where customer paid for $1,500 to replace the camera, and it didn’t fix the issue & ford wanted them to pay AGAIN. I don’t have $1,500 to waste on BS. We do it ourselves or do without.

My buddy borrowed my truck and when it came back the camera wouldn’t work. I didn’t think anything of it especially it being something he did. I watched this video and the plug above the emergency brake was loose. I asked him if he used the e brake when borrowing my truck and he said he did but didn’t let the pedal up easy when disengaging it. I always put my foot on e brakes to let them up easily but he said he never does in his pickup (his was in the shop, thats why he borrowed mine). Easy fix though at least.

Interesting. I’m assuming the hardware for the cars is similar to the trucks I just don’t know where the connection points are. I would just try and trace down the connections and make sure everything is plugged in properly and not corroded

I've been having intermittent camera problems for many months on my 2016 F-350. Finally took it to a dealer yesterday and got the camera replaced under my MaxCare policy I got when I bought the truck through CarMax. It worked fine at the dealer. Got it home and - IT DIDN'T WORK. I'll be back at the dealer today!

@@bubbasfabrication Amazingly, when I got back home up here in northern Nevada (I was in Houston, TX when I took the truck to a dealer), the camera has worked flawlessly. I don't get it! The service guy at the dealer in Houston told me Ford warranties the repair for two years, so we'll see. I've got the paperwork and the guarantee in writing.

Is the “gray harness” the bundle of wires coming up from the floorboard that sits just above the brake release cable or is it the gray plug with the group of wires coming down from above that is directly above the parking brake pedal?

The clip just swings open. Then pull the plug out and push it back in. Swing the clip closed. It’s difficult to reach and see at the same time. Look at it then try to do it by feel.

My 2015 F250 40,000 miles does the same exact thing. Took it to dealer they replaced the camera. Same day I picked up, same issue again. I’ve narrowed it down to the parking brake. I couldn’t really see the connection you were talking about though.

Kurtis Rodriguez it is the large connection under the dash with the grey tab. If you cannot narrow it down try setting and releasing the brake hard multiple times. If the camera doesn’t connect you can try checking the connection under the tailgate show later in the video.

I just got a camper, had to take the tail gate off for the camper, when I put it back on and plugged all the harnesses back in on my 2018 F-250 super duty, the camera started acting up and then quit working altogether. I took the connecters apart and blew them out, (there was a bit of road dirt etc. in them) it still wouldn't work. I checked the fuses and they were good. Any other suggestions? I will try the dielectric grease too.

I would say check the areas mentioned in the video first (sounds like you already have) after that maybe do some more research on youtube. Does the plug under the dash fully come out? Was able to pull back the handle all the way and tugged on the plug but no matter how hard I pulled it felt as if there’s a stop.

I would assume it completely comes out. I have never completely remove one however its a fairly large plug they tend to be stiff and difficult to remove.

The second screen is actually an Ipad mini. This was purchased from retrocustomz.com/shop. Fairly simple install.

jose pulido it is an iPad dash kit! Works great. AC function is now on the top screen. Only down side is you lose your volume function. It now needs to be controlled from steering wheel.

Ok I tried your under the dash trick rewired the ground at the tailgate and installed a new camera. I still get rolling lines in the picture and the screen goes black. Any other ideas?

it's hard to say without seeing the truck in person. To me - it sounds like there is still an issue under the dash. I would start there but in reality it could be somewhere else in the harness or entertainment screen.

Great news! The screen on the lower side is a IPAD. The dash kit can be purchased from retrocustomz.com/shop?olsPage=products (you will just need to buy the iPad). The climate controls are still accessible on the top screen. The hazard button just needs to be moved to another location.
