My dad was stationed in Kitzingen, Germany in the mid 70s and he and my mom decided to live off the base to save money and experience the culture. They stayed with a family and their apartment shared a wall with the family stable my mom was missing home and for the 4 th of July made corn on the cob and hamburgers and American potato salad. Their landlady was appalled at the corn and cold potato salad! She suggested that the salad needed heated and that they should feed the corn to Mösel her horse!

I'm Dutch and here in the Netherlands we call corn chicken food. "Corn is for the chickens". But I love corn on the cob with good butter. Love it! Nowadays all food is everywere. Thats a good thing.

Oh! Someone please introduce the poor Europeans to sweet corn and fire roasted corn! It sounds like all they ever saw was field corn, which has a blander flavor but is still good if cooked right. Fresh field corn is GOOOOOOD!!

I have a 1930s reprint of a 1920s cookbook. It has recipes for raccoon, squirrel, possum, hare, and groundhog. In hard times, especially in rural areas, you eat what you can catch.

My Grandfather grew up during the Great Depression, and then fought in WW II. They ate what they had to survive. He used to talk about eating racoon. I am very happy to know that it was good, but I always just assumed that ate it to survive. Happy New Year to you and your families. Best wishes to all.

During WWII in Britain the war department actually encouraged families to keep rabbits and chickens not as pets but as easy to feed rapidly growing food supply. And state side my mom remembered eating river fish and crawfish (we live in the heart of Columbus, Ohio but there’s many rivers here and parks so it’s definitely possible to go fishing and creeking even in the city)that to this day she refuses to eat fish! I don’t see much difference between that and eating raccoons if you were hungry and it’s available.

The taping, mudding & sanding of drywall is what takes the most time. Plus it makes a mess. Spray foam is extremely efficient, which is something you can do in the attic some day if you need to. Yep, floor is ALWAYS last or you’ll waste more time & money trying to tape it down.

Omigosh, you two remind me of the time I was first married (1989) and we lived In British Columbia Canada. I was a city girl from Chicago, IL. My husband's coworker had us over for supper and made the most delicious beef roast I had ever eaten. Not overly done and so moist and tender. I asked her how she cooked it and, at that point, everyone started to giggle. I slowly looked up and said, "What" in a very suspicious manner. Then my husband said that it was moose. Well, I was not going to give them the satisfaction of acting shocked and said, " Well, it is delicious. Can I have another slice?" So, racoon? I just might try it, lol. Watching you two reminds me of my husband and I. May you always have the loving playfulness in your marriage.

For your house ….here’s an idea if you haven’t already thought of it. Instead of wedding presents when y’all get married have your friends and family’s gifts go towards the house. If they can give a couple hours here and there paint walls, sweep floors, help with flooring, help with the window hanging, small jobs, big jobs - what ever they can help with. That way you have more hands to help AND best part is your friends hands and heart have help build your home. Thats a gift that keeps on giving. Like a barn raising. If we were closer, we live in TN, we’d be right over to help. ❤️❤️

I have had both racoon and bear many times. Both are good, but I think bear is a little oilier. Bear taste like a cross between beef and fatty pork. Good! One thing though - bear stays red no matter how much you cook it - unless you burn it up. Don't burn it - red is done and fine!

Huh! Wonder why? I won’t do it, unless things go very wrong, but good to know!

I hope we can all take a moment to appreciate how blessed we are that the idea of eating raccoon seems bizarre to some of us. Reading the comments gives me a perspective that I did not have growing up and even now. We really are lucky even when the world seems like a crazy place! Enjoy your meal, Ron & Justine! Happy New Year!

Happy New Year Ron and Justine! 🎉🎊 My hubby said he's try racoon, it sounds interesting. Justine love your skunk hat, hubby has one also, he wore it to a bonfire, and everybody wanted it. 😊
