Lone Pine’s ‘Backyard Explorers’ program creates a journey of discovery while introducing diets, habitats, adaptations, and plenty of problem-solving. Students are challenged to use their Backyard Explorer knowledge to piece together animal clues like scale sheds, footprints and food sources to learn which animals may be living in or around their backyards. 🐞
So, put on your explorer hat and get ready for an adventure! 🧢🎒🥾
On this Backyard Explorers journey, students will be challenged to guess an Aussie backyard animal, based on a series of clues about its diet, body covering, and habitat.
🏡At Home Challenges🏡
1. Why not have a go at creating your very own Backyard Explorer journal? Take an adventure around your own house, whether it's in your backyard or next time you go out for a walk with your family, and record what types of animal "clues" you can see, hear, smell, and (safely) touch. 👀👂👃👈
2. If you find any amazing animals, have a think about what they need to survive in their habitat. What do they eat? Where might they find shelter? What adaptations do they have to help them survive? Record your findings in your own journal!
3. Draw a picture of a blue-tongued lizard in a backyard habitat, thinking about all of the things that it might need to survive. 🦎 Make sure it has plenty of food and placed to hide!
4. For an additional challenge, try designing your own "mini habitat" at home using materials from around your back yard, or things you collect on a nature walk around the neighbourhood with your family.
We'd love to see what you've been working on at home! Feel free to share your creations by posting a picture in the comments section.
