I don't know much about the '55, but my friend owned a '57 back when I was 21. I naively commented commented that it looked so heavy. He told me it looked heavy, due to the deceptive shape, but he told me it only weighed a hair over 3k lbs. There was a lot of space under that shell. Nowadays, they pack all the components in tightly, making it a fuckin' chore to do simple jobs!
