The worst take of all, in my opinion: The people who think that Azula and Ty Lee are a great couple. Ty Lee was literally scared to death of Azula and was so relieved when Azula was finally taken down yet people...ship the two characters together. It boggles my mind. Everything about their interactions was abusive and toxic and yet people still liked the idea of them as a romantic couple. The worst part is, I don't how much of a hot take the Azula x Ty Lee ship is. It really creeps me out how so many people so happily support such a toxic relationship.

I was using it more like the opposite of an older generation (I guess the boomers but that doesn’t fit quite right either). Rather than blaming a generation, which is stupid anyway, I guess what I really mean is that I feel (keyword feel, not know) critiques of TV shows and movies have taken aim at character faults as ruining shows as of late. I think that Sokka's facepalm in 9:00 would have suited the situation perfectly. Also, personally, of all the uncanonical "shipping bullshit" I like Sokka×Toph pairing the most, just because it was visible that Toph had some kind of crush on Sokka. It was plausible, unlike Zuko×Katara, for example. But I still am happy that in the end it was Sokka×Suki. By the way, I am fully for Kataang.

The problem with Ozai is that he's pretty 2-dimensional without much nuance. He's evil for the sake of being evil, just an evil boogeyman for the heroes to take down. He works in that role, but people aren't wrong to have wanted more from him.

I feel like that was the point though, I feel like Azula fills the role as the three dimentional primary antagonist perfectly. Ozai is the over all main antagonist but he's more ment for Aang's struggle, he represents the entire Fire Nation, the huge obstacle that Aang himself needs to overcome. Giving him chacatars is not nessisarly that needed, besides he's still intimidating alone (also thanks to Mark Hammil's performance), and that's thanks to his ambition of power, he's pure evil, no redeeming qualities (Dude abuses his son and sends him on a supposed goose chase, kills his own father, plans to burn down the world and rebuild it into one single empire) and that's all we needed honestly. He's bassicaly Super Hitler.

Did you create Avatar month? This is awesome! I found you from Raven Knight's response. I love your attitude! What the heck are these people thinking?! The first episode is fun, and Zuko alone is so great because, of the build up to it! I watched Avatar growing up, but never saw most of the episodes due to not knowing how episodes on tv worked and only ever catching the same 3 episodes lol. That being said having finally watched the whole thing as an adult I loved this show, and do not think the first episode or any episode was too kid-ish and in fact I love the juxtaposition of the funny kid moments with the dark mature moments. This is one of the best shows, if not the best show I've ever scene. Not to be rude, but I think most people who prefer Zutara do so for shallow tropey reasons, and not because the characters themselves are better together. People love the older brooding bad boy trope, even if Katara and Zuko were literally enemies until the second half of season 3 which is way too late for a romance! Also, Aang isn't too young for Katara, so many people say that, but 2 years is not a big deal especially considering they're not going to school in the modern USA, but are in a freaking war torn fantasy world. Also, the younger boy who the girl at first just sees as a little kid before eventually seeing him as a potential boyfriend is so unique and I love it. I love they're slow burn friends to more than friends. Best tv show couple ever. Katara is amazing! All the characters are sometimes selfish... you know... like everyone on Earth (she is definitely one of the least selfish though), but she is a great person! Also, I never felt her being sad her mother was murdered was excessive. They're really exagerrated how much she brings it up, gosh dang. Aang taking Ozai's power was dues ex machina, but it's one of those things I love the show so much I can forgive it. The point the article made about him being selfish is dub though. It's a convenient solution, and I prefer Katara and Zuko, and Sokka, Toph and Sukki's final battles more due to it, but it's still epic. I think if I didn't love the series it'd bother me more, but since it doesn't contradict the lore imo and I still love how epic the scene is I can't bring myself to care. The show isn't perfect, but my experience watching it is. Lol Toph and Mai I'm dying XD WHY WOULD THEY SAY THAT ABOUT UNCLE IROH!!!! I don't tear up to fiction a lot, but the one scene in this series that made me tear up was when he forgave Zuko. It was so touching. Personally, I found Azula's defeat to be oddly tragic. She's a tragic character, but also she could never be redeemed. This is dark, but she makes me think of child soldiers who grow up to perpetuate the cycle, and never try to change or even want to. She never had another option and her breakdown is tragic, but also I don't believe she can change. She's too far gone. Sokka is my favorite character!!! *cue Gretta Thunberg "How dare you."* It's okay that you're wrong though, the video is still fun XD Lol so is Zuko cheating on Katara with Jet or are they a thruple? It seems like Buzzfeed just hates Aang and Katara for having any flaws and making bad choices, even though that's the point of the episode and they learn and change and apologize, but Zuko burning down innocent people's villages is okay because he learns and changes and apologizes. They want Katara to bloodbend?! She's a bad person for mourning her dead mom, but she should also control people's bodies against their will?! What?! Here's my problem with the new popularity that Avatar is gaining that I witnessed occur to some fandoms. When a fandom gets popular, a number of people use that growing popularity as a catalyst to share their views or to ride a tide of popularity to output their views/opinions on specific matters in the show with little understanding about the context and the source. Some might do it for the sake of popularity (for every rule there exist exceptions) via unpopular opinions but I digress. What I'm saying is that when a new wave of popularity comes to a show, series or franchise. It seems that a number of people appreciate the original source for what it is, once they watch the entire series, but the vocal and/or toxic group of fans tend to ruin it for everyone by trying to put their views onto the show (Some are shown in the video) or discuss the show with little understanding of events or character within the show. All the hot takes I saw are making me concerned about how vocal these groups of people are and how they might ruin the show for others (especially the ones that create content related to the show that these vocal people don't like and long-time fans). Although some of the hot takes have some or very little merit. For the most part, the people in the hot takes often fail to understand why the writers did what they did or they just don't like it and want to voice their disapproval despite examples proving that listening to the few very vocal fans or the media is not always be the best idea (The biggest example is BFV at initial release). If anyone is willing to have a decent discussion just leave a reply. Do not say I'm wrong and that my argument is invalid in any way since 1. there will be exceptions; I'm not saying all things that are gaining popularity have this problem just most or a good number of them and 2. no argument can be invalid, just very weak arguments or arguments/opinions having little to no merit to it (look up the fallacious argument fallacy).

You have a point, but you may be over-complicating it. At least to me it partially comes down to a lot of these new fans (who are younger, they're zoomers) only half watch the show, i.e they watch the show while on their phone half the time and not *really* paying attention, so they only half-understand the show. This happens with a lot of older shows that gain new popularity, where we'll see a lot of these new fans like the show over vapid, trivial reasons like shipping and the like while glancing over important topics like writing and themes.

When I first watched the show it was mostly to alleviate my boredom so I completely understand where you're coming from (i was like 11ish and watching it on ROGERS-on-demand) and was like what you said: "not really paying attention, so they only half-understand the show." I remember that I half-understood the show at the time and wasn't until recently, when I watched Hello Future Me, that I gained a new understanding of it. I think the argument that article made about why Zuko Alone is a good episode to convince people that Avatar is more than just a kids show applies much better to The Storm. That episode still has the mature themes, but also provides the origin of the main character and the main antagonist (until Azula showed up). You should still just start with the first episode, but The Storm is a much better starting point than Zuko Alone.

Where are you getting the whole "Zutara fan wrote the comics" thing? Most of the comics (including the one where Zuko and Mai break up) were written by Mike and Bryan themselves alongside Gene Luen Yang, and as far as I know the latter doesn't seem to be a Zutara shipper of any kind. Even if he was, I doubt Bryke would allow him to insert Zutara stuff in there. Someone who works on the comics has also hinted at the idea that Zuko and Mai are probably getting back together in the future, so this idea just doesn't stand.

I give some leeway to the netflix fans of the show because watching it on Netflix it's a lot easier to miss bits and pieces because you probably have it on to binge while you do other things. If you watched it airing on TV on were there for the whole episode.

Please tell me while I’m wrong, I like Zuko and Katara’s relationship because of their share trauma. In real life this tends to cause unconditional relationships. It also felt like Zuko and Katara share chemistry and more (two-directional) moments than Aang and Katara. I feel like Zuko stepping up to help her to fix their relationships is also pretty informative. I kinda mean this as Zuko taking a lot of effort to build something between them. And even if it’s part of his character arc, Zuko took a lightning shot for her. I’m sure he would have also taken it for Aang but that comes down to him achieving his destiny (which is incredibly important for him). That’s all I got, I’m open minded and ready to change opinions if the evidence is there. And as a side note, I’m biased because Zuko is my favorite character.

I would never understand, where people see the chemistry between them. I know people see this " fire-water, yin-yang, Romeo and Juliet"-type of relationship in Zutara and although it's an interesting concept and dynamic, in reality they never showed similar interest towards each other. Yeah, they have common childhood trauma, being a missing mom, but the situations are soo different. And I know, these days teens just love the angsty love-hate relationships and think they're cool and hot, but Katara legitimately and literally despited Zuko even when he joined their team. She accepted him as a team member only after he went with her in the Southern Raiders episode. Before that, she was fully against him being with them, she didn't trust him at all and Sawa him only as an enemy, because even if we know he is actually a good guy with terrible past, Team Avatar doesnt know that. He behaved as an enemy to them through almost the whole show. Even after Katara offered to heal him in the last episodes of Book 2. And she did that, because of her compassion and empathy towards the others. Because for the first time, he told her his backstory and she felt sorry for him. But then he betrayed them. And in Book 3 she legit told him, she will kill him, if he tried to hurt Aang again.. Where is the romantic in that? Where is this chemistry? Katara realised she has feelings for Aang by the time they were in The Cave of two lovers in Book 2. Cause I'm pretty sure it means you really like someone, when your first idea for escape is just kissing them and then after blushing because of it. Till this point it was clear for me, she had a crush on Jet and on Haru in Book 1. And in The Fortuneteller episode, she thought that maybe Aang is her destined lover, not Zuko, cause he is also a powerful bender. When I watched it for the first time I was fangirling over every small and big Kataang moment, because it was so obvious they liked each other. The thought of Zutara never crossed my mind. And in Book 3, when they danced in the cave - that was hot, that was a true chemistry between characters. When Aang kissed her before the invasion, she didn't pushed back like in the Theater episode. She kissed him back and liked the kiss. Zuko and her had just 1 hug, cause she was grateful, that he helped her, one touch on his scar, cause she felt sorry and wanted to heal him like the mother and the healer in her have always acted like that towards everyone and in the End she saved her, because that was the right thing and I'm sure he would do it for everyone from Team Avatar, that was the progress his redemption shows and she is again grateful and overwhelmed by the whole drama, that she is crying. And that's it. I really am unable to see their "romantic feelings" and "chemistry". In the first Book he kidnapped her and used her to lure Aang and after their second fight in the Northern water tribe, she was ready to leave him to die in the snow. Only Aang decided to save Zuko. Before him joining the team, they saw each other only as enemies and didn't really care about one another, because they had their own very different goals and problems to think about. At least, that's how I always saw them to be. Not to mention his relationship with Mai. Don't know why, people just forget about this. I Hope this helps you understand, why some people, can't ship Zutara. I didn't mean to be rude or anything like that, it's just that it was always strange for me, how others can see. Them as a lovers and if they were I think they would be a pretty toxic couple, at least in the beginning. If you think I missed some major evidence for them, beside all the Fandom theories, but real examples, I would gladly think about it. 😇 But hey, in the end, everyone is free to ship whoever they want.. Soo..🤷

Wtrgrl3315, okay I agree with you, Aang and Katara shared a lot more moments. I had to go back and watch their moments and it’s clear I forgot about a lot. For me, the most memorable scenes that I was thinking of was when Katara pulled back from Aangs kiss and Zuko connecting with Katara. I think the chemistry I remember was from Zuko’s and Katara’s southern raider ship raid when they work as a flawless team right off the bat. And the anger against Zuko was explained as her misplaced anger towards the Fire nation for taking her mom. Also for like the entire first season Aang was treated as just a friend to Katara while Aang clearly more into her. Of course Katara was never really into Zuko at all so there that.

I dunno, I feel like Aang also has shared trauma, having lost his people to the fire nation as well. Aang and Katara helped each other deal with that trauma, Katara is the one who calmed him out of the avatar state after he found out about the loss of his people.

Well to be fair Buzzfeed's list is just a compilation of unpopular opinions. They never really said that they themselves had them. Especially with the Zutara is best vs. Kataang is best argument, it's not exactly "contradictory" since to either side they're an unpopular opinion. Personally, I ship Katara and Zuko together, and because of that, it's more often that I'll see, or talk to someone else who also has that belief. In my household Zutara is WAY more popular than Kataang. My main problem with people criticising Katara bringing up her dead mom, is that it's totally logical within the show whenever she brings it up. Whenever anyone talks about their struggle with the fire nation, she talks about the fact that they killed her mother, which is entirely relevant to the conversation. Jet constantly brings up how the fire nation is killing people, and if he were part of the main cast, you would probably hear it just as often, if not MORE often, than Katara brings up her dead mom.
