Hey guys, Giants fan here, personally I feel like the whole hometown narrative is a bit overblown. Burnes actually grew up in southern california and was an Angels fan. He just went to college in the Bay Area. If location ends up mattering it’ll probably be because he just wants to be on the west coast, rather than him having some sort of hometown connection to the giants.

We'll get a couple of 'window dressing' signings, and that's it. Our last hope would be Pete Alonso, but with Soto now on the Mets, that's asking a lot. I would take a gamble on Walker Buehler, and I'd offer up Bo Bichette for Marcell Ozuna, Josh Naylor, or Brent Rooker.

I think players just genuinely don't want to play for this organization. When the Blue Jays had a good team there was a chance but now it's not an attractive place to play. Tough division, underperforming roster, inept management and high taxes. Not a good recipe for attracting free agents. The Blue Jays are inevitably heading into a rebuild and they need to trade what they have for some good prospects and draft picks. I'd be surprised if Vladdy or Bichette would want to stay at this point.

Not sure Santander is the answer. Yes, he hit 44 HRs but he had a 2.2 WAR which is really low for 44 HRs, which also tells me he does everything else really bad.

I have a feeling Rowdy Tellez is going to be Vogelbach 2.0 I certainly hope Ross doesn't go this low for a power bat, trying to chase his 2022 season. He's already chasing the 2022 season of Gimenez.

@@FootballMania3000 The one thing I do like is Gimenez' stolen bases. The running game of the Jays has been atrocious, with 72 in 2024 and ranked 27th in MLB. Gimenez stole 30 in each of the last two seasons. I loved Horwitz, though - I wanted him to have a shot back in 2022.

I'd like to take a flier on Bryan de la Cruz. If you told me a year ago he would only cost his salary to acquire him, I would be all over him. There is 30 homeruns in that bat. Is he even good defensively? He does have a hell of an arm, but outside that he would be a liability. No more than the Jays outfields poor throwing. Anyone else notice how many extra bases guys took on the regular against the Jays that weren't KK? Constantly.

How much $ are the Jays spending? Fgraphs has them at $228mil right now. The assistant GM of the Jays Murov mentioned that they "aren't done adding by any stretch" & spending will help convince Vlad to resign. I expect them to go past the 1st MLB payroll threshold of $241mil (2nd threshold of $281mil). If they push all the way to the 2nd threshold, they still have around $53mil to spend. A realistic estimate would be $40-50mil to spend. Burnes would be a great add, but it would be wiser for a team whose strength is SP to focus on Bats. They need one of Hernandez, Santander, Alonso or Walker to help address their power issue. (Bregman is not a good fit) If not one of them they have to shift to getting 2 of Profar, Goldschmidt, Pederson, Santana, Kepler. While adding a 5th SP late in FA in the $5-7mil range (Perez, Lorenzen, Lynn, Gibson, etc) & also adding another quality RP in the $5mil range (Kimbrel, Leclerc, Chafin, Sewald, Martin, Ottavino, etc).

I certainly hope Atkins isn't take advice from fans or talking heads on which players to chase next. Keep chasing the shiny objects and missing out on every one and Jays will end up with nothing. They should atleast explore trading Vladdy and Bo. You might get an overpay. Look what Miami got for Burger. I understand Burger has a low cost and has control but maybe you can get a team to give up someone special. This is the bold move. Atkins has proven all he can do is play it safe. What will end up happening is this team will be 42-48 and we won't have the power hitting to compete. Bo will have decent season and we will get a toolsy Derek Fischer guy that has proven he can't play. We will waste resources and playing time on a bum. Vladdy won't get traded and we will get a compensatory pick when he signs with a team that has other good players. 2025 season motto for the Jays should be "Diminishing returns".
