I was at this show. I recruited at least 100 people from off the boardwalk and beach in the hours leading up to the free Daytona spring break MTV filmed event. Because all these beach goers were clueless as to what was about to happen. I can be seen many times. My friends too. We had come down from Atlantic Beach, about an hour north. At 20:25, there I am in the original Bad Brains t-shirt from their first cassette tape, with the lightening bolt. I hilariously bump into these total 80’s chicks spilling their drinks. Their hair is all teased out ! Man, the 80’s was awesome ! It was a great show on a weekday, Friday maybe, in the middle of the afternoon. I had seen the Bad Brains previously in California in 1984 and many times after including the band HR. It was always great ! - Joey Coma

A great, great band who deserved to be much bigger. I bought their debut album on cassette in 1982, and it knocked me down. Dr. Know is easily one of the most overlooked guitarists of all time, Metallica, Slayer, and Anthrax would have killed to have a musician in that league. The only American group that can also play reggae, no mean feat. At least, The Beastie Boys recognized their brilliance. They were a class act.

One Word…… P.M.A.!!! 💪 💚 (SHOW WAS IN DAYTONA BEACH @ THE BAND SHELL) Fr tho PMA👊 These guys are such crucial pioneers in not just the whole punk scene but in musical expression of all forms and thought leaders in all walks. They’ve influenced a whole generation and will long continue to inspire creation and positivity, in countless forms, far past our time here. 2023 Go Punkers!! BTW, the view rn regarding Bad Brains is amazing while I sit re-watching this past event captured as best it could be, now cemented in history. Someone with some true musical wisdom hand their hand in this for BB to be involved with the MTV (emptyV) beach party!! I had no idea who BB was beforehand or of what this day would come to mean to myself. Sometime after noon I unenthusiastically walked a couple minutes from my regular spot at the beach up to the boardwalk just to say I checked out the music, heard a couple radio-rock songs I knew I already wasn’t into, be in disbelief at how many people only listen to what they are fed, lose faith in finding my own home in music, walk away a judgmental elitist and wait until I could play good enough to show the world the beat of the drum I was marching to. I had no clue what was about to happen but I was ready. Ready as you can be, this exact live performance would impact me for life, change my views on what can be done with music!! 🎉 I assumed this show was long forgotten, almost erased in a sense to everyone but myself. IDK loI I KNEW these guys were doing something special, magical, waaaay back then. I still can’t believe they played that venue via MTV to this day! What an odd collab for so many insider reasons! You had to be there and MTV was a whole different entity back then, sorry! Lol It’s such a relatively small unassuming bandshell on the beach but I did see some legendary bands there play there now that I think of it. I was warned not to go up on the boardwalk and just to stay on the beach like normal as I was only 12 years old. “Idk why you’d wanna listen to that noise they call music nowadays anyways!” I agreed with her on a lot of the music and still do. I was trying to find MY OWN music aside from what I knew from my time training as a classical pianist, sorting through the “crap the kids call music nowadays” as my piano teacher called it and Dad’s music which was the best so far, but still his music. So then, while sneaking into the area from the beach as an impressionable 12 year old seeker I became more and more excited as I followed this very energetic sound straight to the bandshell. It was something I never heard before. It was super fast. It was angry. It was furious. It was just what I was looking for. I had found it here, in Bad Brains, first. I have always held their music in the highest regard while being an attentive and serious student to their MESSAGE and perfectly suited accompanying drive, energy, fearlessness, charisma and style of each instrument! They’ve never let me down. 🙌👏 True, timeless LEGENDS!!! PS show was 3 mins from my house (IN DAYTONA BEACH), not West Palm Beach, FL I had no idea the magnitude of that particular show as I see and hear it now for the 2nd time, but I can say I did know I was in the right place and time just like I still know exactly where I’m at now is the best place for me. I almost forgot that I played the bandshell once myself. Wow, I played on the same stage as the original Bad Brains!! So lit, so fire, so rad, so crunk, so cool, so damn punk 😂 😉CHEERS my friends!!!! If you read all that, allow me to take you on a second date 🙏

It was a good thing when I Against I came out, because it was so good, people didn't complain as much about missing the hardcore stuff.
