Paul Rodgers may have, in fact, helped save Jimmy Page's life. After John Bonham died, and while Jimmy became isolated and reclusive while he still suffered from a drug dependency, it was Paul Rodgers who helped Jimmy get purpose again by playing together, eventually forming the Firm, and getting out on the road.

First and foremost, Rodgers could _sing_ . Although BC played what I'd call generic rock ( _Free_ made better music, mainly because of Paul Kossoff), Paul Rodgers was the reason they differed from the herd. I do not believe he was one of the two best rock vocalists ever, though. Those honors belong to Steve Marriott and Freddie Mercury. And before the Zeppelin worshipping horde comes out, I'd recommend a listen to the 2022 interview Robert Plant had with Rick Rubin in his _Broken Record_ podcast. I never paid _any_ attention to Humble Pie until Plant, in that interview, said that starting out as a vocalist "he couldn't do the Marriott thing". Puzzled, I immediately checked out Marriott and saw exactly what Plant was talking about.

Never got to see BC perform in concert, but when I was a flight attendant I had them on a short flight from ATL to Albany, Ga. A small 30 seat puddle jumper. We were running 4 hours late. The previous flight crew lost the drummers stick bag and stool bag. We were on that plane for a loooong time. They were the only passengers on the plane. I started belting out this song and the next thing I know we're all having a grand time going through their catalogue. They were amazed that I knew all their tunes. I suppose the concert was canceled, IDK. I wouldn't trade the experience for any live concert. Good times. Love their song Simple Man. Very powerful. It's not the Skynyrd song, but their own.

I never noticed before how much his voice reminds me of Lou Gramm from Foreigner, or vice versa. I saw both of those bands as a kid in small indoor arenas when they were back in their early heyday. Definitely has that badass vibe but to me there's always been at least some wistfulness there too, if you take note of the anguish in his voice at times, well most of the time, and then there is that line in there about them being rebels, the ones that other people more or less cast out, so they took up a gun and gave away the sun. That is particularly heartbreaking to me for some reason.

Paul Rogers is the pianist along with the vocals (plays guitar too). Front man & co-founder of Free, Bad Company, The Firm (with Jimmy Page, post Led Zeppelin), The Law (with Kenney Jones - ex-Small Faces/Faces and The Who drummer). Did a couple of concerts & an album with a reunited Queen billed "Queen + Paul Rodgers". A personal favorite of his solo work is "Muddy Water Blues: A Tribute to Muddy Waters (1993)". In 2016 & 2019 he had major strokes, along with 11 minor strokes. I believe he's made a full recovery in spite of the last one affecting his speech and musical abilities. He is the quintessential rock vocalist with aggressive vocals.

He later teamed up with Jimmy Page in 1982 or so for a couple of albums under the name "The Firm," whose hit "Radioactive," has a wicked bass line. Another of Bad Co. many hits was "Shooting Star," which, I believe, was inspired by the life and tragic death of one Jimi Hendrix.
