Bad Cuts ...Don't Violate The Branch Protection Zone

Learned this myself on big maples we had when I lived on the riverbank…plus mulch volcanoes just brought bugs into the trunks which I tested to see

Sad for the tree. To be fair, there's a huge difference in accidentally violating one protection zone and having every trunk cut result in holes like that.

have you ever cut down a big tree with major decay that resulted in a huge hollow. Happens in a lot of silver maples here. Did yo ever wonder how long ago those cuts were made? some cuts probably 30-50 years ago..
