It demonstrates why bidirectional cycleways are a poor solution in many cases, however that does not excuse the driver for failing to stop before crossing onto the path. That applies anywhere be it a footpath or cycleway, you have a responsibility to give way when moving from a non-road or road related area onto a road. When you don’t have enough visibility you’re allowed to use your horn to warn oncoming pedestrians and cyclists. It would probably be better to relocate the exit in that situation. The signage is also wrong, there should not be a give way sign at the kerb but a stop sign and stop line at the car park exit.

Further to this, you must start your U-turn from the marked lane nearest to the centre of the road or, if there are no lane markings, the left of the centre of the road. (Rule 42 Road Rules 2014 (NSW)). In addition, when performing a U-turn, the driver is required to have a clear view of any approaching traffic and ensure it is safe to perform the manoeuvre without unreasonably obstructing the free movement of traffic (Rule 37). Breaching any of the above rules carries an on-the-spot fine of $263 and 2 demerit points. A motorist when performing a U-turn is required to give way to all vehicles and pedestrians (Rule 38). Breaching this rule carries an on-the-spot fine of $337 and 3 demerit points. In NSW, Rule 132(2A) Road Rules 2014 (NSW) also outlines the law on performing a U-turn. This rule prohibits a driver from performing a U-turn across a road with a single continuous dividing line, a single continuous dividing line to the left of a broken dividing line or 2 parallel continuous dividing lines. That 5:08 is actually legal in Victoria but illegal in NSW. Man I wish we had same laws whole country but after this border closing debacles at the drop of a hat, it will never happen. However, the U-turn at traffic lights in Victoria means the U-turner gives way to ALL traffic including the traffic turning left onto the street you are U-turning into, which can on occasion block traffic that just wanted to turn right. Another old rule (traffic lights without turn arrows) was those turning right had right of way over those opposite turning left, now it those turning left have priority over those turning right so traffic will sit in middle of intersection waiting for opposite traffic to clear turning left.

Ho john FYI no you have misunderstood that clip it’s not a merge the 4WD drove into the wrong lane they were meant to into the lane with stopped traffic see where the car ahead of the Dc went went the light turned green , the Dc was forced into another lane by the 4WD watch again and not the doted lines marking at the start of the clip :)

Hi Neil FYI couple thing you got mixed up on re the video you time linked that's not a merge think got confused on the lines , the lines are for the traffic in other direction , the event the issue the 4wd turned into the wrong lane and cut off the Dc car , and other not we do use the term "right of way " in Australia that's an American turn and has a different legal and literal meaning , out laws work on who has to give way , no one ever has right of way here :)

Hi Neil no if you go back to 6:25 and look at the lane marking for the lanes the DC and 4WD were in you will see the 4 was meant to go to the lane with the stopped traffic but they didn’t and moved into the lane they DC was in and forced them to stop and pull left , see they car ahead to the DC when then light went Green they went into the lane 4WD illegally cuts into ie where the DC driver was meant to go too , there was no merge , make sense now ? :) Happy Easter

At 12:00, why do they need ALL those blinding flashing lights? I can across an accident one day and the number of emergency vehicles and tow trucks ALL with their lights on made it difficult to even see the policemen directing traffic. A set of lights at the beginning of the crash scene and at the other end, plus a couple in the middle, but not every vehicle, we know they are emergency services, no need to advertise the fact on every car/truck. At 20:45, even cyclists have to slow down and RIDE TO THE CONDITIONS, blind driveways. How could those bikes be seen from that driveway at the speed the cyclists were doing, I know everything looks faster on video.

There's no bloody way that wagon driver isn't drunk. A danger to everyone on the road. I would have had the cops on the phone to take that one off the roads. He will end up killing an innocent person or whole family.
