I love that the ' Maiden ' was the Catalyst for the story but was a form of ventment for the Writer/Tragedy. Tragedy wished to see their love once more and the maiden never getting to be with the Overlord was their tragedy. It's personified in the true ending where you find out ' our ' player was Tradjedies lover - the overlord. The overlord and maiden got an ending in their play where they were together and in the end, The truth Is said for both Tradjedies and their darling. I also really enjoy that in the Ost were seeing it still from both perspectives. Tragedy telling the stories to their audience and then Tragedies lover finally arriving to undo their ' Tradjedy ' and rewrite it all. Such a good game.

It really does show, too, I feel! All of the endings from the Maiden's perspective have that cynical, biting tone. Acting like she DESERVED the bad endings, and she caused them. The song, too, really shows it. The first verse seems to be sung from Tragedy's POV, the second mixes both, and the last seems to be from the 'Player's' POV. The 4 characters are really interesting: - The Hero: A person who misinterprets the Maiden and her situation/feelings. - The Underling: A person manipulated to joining a bandwagon that constantly tried to put the Overlord down. - The Maiden: A person who was able to find her own path and ignore her "maiden" role thanks to the Overlord. - The Overlord: A person who found happiness in her otherwise dull life thanks to the Maiden, and was constantly alluded to having a crush on the Maiden. The Maiden/Overlord connection obviously links to Tragedy and her lover, as hinted at at the very end. But what makes this interesting is what the Hero and Underling represent. These two represent the people who tore Tragedy and her lover apart. The Hero represents the people who once forced Tragedy into a role, misunderstood Tragedy's feelings towards her friend when she broke said role, and thus the "townspeople" tore them apart. The Underling represents the people who piled on the other two's relationship, and thus the "demons" tore them apart in that sense. I could be wrong, but this is just speculation in the end.

i think that the maiden and overlord are definitely supposed to have a connection, because in the bad end version you only hear the first part of the lyrics: To the lost, the cold Take your seats, everyone Welcome to BAD END THEATER When the curtains close You'll come away stronger Or maybe you'll break Not my fault you sought this pain Share in my misery For all eternity Labyrinth of suffering I've missed you, my darling where as here in the true end version, where we see that Tragedy finds Comedy again, and so plays into these lyrics: Wandering all alone Searching for my lost love Stumbled toward BAD END THEATER Though its plays were cold I still felt this warmth from them Isn't that strange? Can't help thinking of your face For all your tragedies I'll write happy endings Undo all our suffering I've missed you, my darling

this song sounds a lot like the first and second verses are from the perspectives of the meta-story going on, with TRAGEDY and COMEDY being the first and second verses- TRAGEDY welcoming you to the theater, explaining the base concept of it, and also hinting at their own sadness COMEDY telling you how they came to find the theater, mentioning they're looking for TRAGEDY, and expressing how they've missed them. This game had me choked up for quite a bit of it. The after credits is when the dams in my eyes broke. The writing was phenomenal. I took so many meanings from this game as the story progressed. Also, this felt like story-boarding as a game. Like "what would happen between these characters if they did this?" I'm not saying that in a bad way at all. In fact, I think it worked very well. On top of that, I believe one of the biggest reasons it worked so well is because the characters were well-defined. You knew enough about them to kinda know what's going on and what's gonna happen, but making the decisions was such a cool, player-driven creative aspect. I will be telling everyone I know, and as soon as I have money, I'll also back you financially.

Slowly becoming attached to the characters, learning more about them as you see these seemingly never ending stories of suffering, wanting so badly for them to be happy. I sympathize with them, I relate to them, I want to see more of them. Perhaps I’ll write my own stories with them, just for myself. Learning at the end that it was an allegory for being queer really hit me. As a bisexual enby, it hit hard. I too wish sometimes I could just play my role as everyone expects of me. Maybe if I was cis and heterosexual life would be easier. It would in fact. But I am who I am, and even with that maybe I too can have a happy ending. The world always feels so hopeless, so I’m glad I could have this night to myself. To feel like maybe I have some chance to be a little bit happier. To live a decent live, perhaps with the girl I’ve found myself falling for. Maybe, just maybe.

The lines "For all your tragedies, I'll write happy ending", are especially heartwarming giving an overwhelming sense of hope when I first heard it...! For just a little while, I felt like my life wasn't gonna worthless! I Thank you for that...! I Thank you so damn dearly! Thank tragedy for hitting us with the cold harsh comfort of reality a game that does not end with a happy ending with a simple death. Instead cycling endless torment until the player aka the lover is willing to be patient enough and work hard enough for the true end. Also a great interpretation of society btw. How those in power does not always choose to be in power and is surrounded by ignorance and bliss until their inability to survive in the real world consumes them. The misguided heroics that does what they think is right all for a cause that was told by those before us. The maiden who doubts and sees the good in everything. And the indifferent one who only wanted a leisurely life only to met with quite the opposite. People who are stuck to their roots and only know certain things would faithfully live those teachings until something were to challenge them deeply. Or to have one mishap create a whole new cycle of hatred perpetuating this cycle of hate by racial discrimination. Cool cool cool.

It's so cool that it foreshadows the true ending right before it happens. At first you stay because it's a really good song, and then you stay because you realize what the song is teaching you.

i finished this game last night, it was stormy and the rain was heavy, my friend and i were in a vc because he wanted to see the ending. we defeated TRAGEDY and we were screaming out of happiness, but then this song and credits started to play. we both went silent immediately. my friend ended up making screenshots of every image that appeared over the course of the credits, me? i cried. most games don't make me cry, some people call me soulless because i don't cry at certain games or that stuff. (as a joke.) my friend was genuinely worried for me, considering i never cried in a vc with him before. i told him that this song made me feel a certain feeling. i don't know what feeling, but seeing everyone of the cast happy at the end made me feel whole. thank you nami for making a seriously underrated gem, and thank you steam for reccomending me this masterpiece.

I'd just like to say how amazing this game is. For how (assumedly) the game was almost entirely made by one person, all of it's aspects are top of the line; the art style is adorable and has it's own flare, the story is great and it's paths are expansive, and as I've been listening to the past half hour, the music has some very high points. It's such a well-rounded experience for a solo outing. This game has definitely become a source of motivation for my own projects. This game just makes me happy I guess lol

Surprisingly, few people noticed such a masterpiece. Memorable characters, thoughtful plot, not a bad pixel style, and of course wonderful music! This game was supposed to become as popular as the "Helltacker" example. I know what I'm writing, I'm Russian, and in Russia this game has not become so famous. What can I say if we have only 3 reviews on it, which have accumulated less than 5,000 views. Yes, I stumbled upon it myself by chance on "Game Jolt" or on "Steam", I don't remember anymore. I advise the author to make the second part, well, or an addition, as in the same "Halltacker". I wish you all the best!

This game was just.. Something else, as a Muslim arab straight dude it's hard to reconcile the teachings of my creed and the truth of the world, that people are people and being gay is just not wrong but complex, (and believe me for someone who's religious creed is more than just something I follow but a part of who I am an inseparable part of my being it's HARD) but for a second there at the REAL ending of the game, it all just faded away, I just didn't care for a second, I was just happy for two people who finally got their happy ending, for finally getting their rainbow through the rain and well... It was beautiful Thank you Nomnomnami for such an amazing experience. Sincerely. -some rando on the internet.

The harmonious notes that play, each with the potential to tug at your heart more and more, the beautiful voice that carries the feeling of each word through the song. Even though I watched markipliers playthrough I had to buy it for myself. Such a little masterpiece with such a poetic and tragic core but with such beautiful flare and true end. The representation with the underlings pronouns and the relation of maiden/overlord was masterfully executed and not a big deal, just like it should be! Absolute masterpiece, if more content should arise I would definitely buy even though it is a closed circle kind of story. Ps. I feel my heart connect with all main characters every time I hear this. I- Who have only cried once due to any movie or game during the end of red dead redemption was on the cusp of crying multiple times during this game both during marks game but even when I experienced it myself for a second time after I bought it. I cannot stress this enough, it is an absolute masterpiece of a game masterfully executed. I love the underling, they align so well with me, the chaotic little bastard. I love them so much! They remind me of me surprisingly much, even though I am not *fully* non-binary. They so ✨cute✨ Edit- Nvm i just wept
