lol please go look at B’Tselem apartheid within Israel proper. Black people lived in Alabama during Jim Crow Laws, does that make them equal? The nation-state law made Palestinian citizens of Israel’s discrimination engrained even when their military rule ended. The delusion to live in the world you are in.

irish americans are just white americans. if you don't at least have some grandparents born in ireland, you're not irish in any way. for white people and to varying degrees for people of other "races"(don't bother with the irish people used to not be white schtick, I know), america really is a melting pot - basically people who move to america remain immigrants, but the second generation already are just americans. and with ireland in particular, you're unlikely to even have another language that kids of at least the second generation otherwise tend to grow up speaking at home, they're just probably going to switch accents and phrases a bit depending on who they're talking to. from the outside looking in I've noticed with irish americans in particular a rather strange-looking eagerness to identify as irish-american, or much more strangely often even as irish. what's going on guys, you know that feeling like saint patrick's day is about you doesn't mean that you're irish, right?

@@Ass_of_Amalek Sorry, but... this just isn't accurate. Not just about Irish-Americans, but about every diasporic group in every country. You'd be shocked how much culture and even language gets passed down in some families. Some people move countries and that's the end of their line's relationship with that country Others, however, maintain contact with family abroad through the generations, visit regularly, send their kids there to study, etc. It really just varies from family to family. That being said, you're absolutely right that Irish-Americans are 1) white and 2) not Irish, with the obvious exception of those who grew up there, of course. Irish-American doesn't necessarily mean part Irish, part US American. Irish-American culture is something else entirely. You can look down on it (and I don't blame you, especially with Irish-Americans and all their cringe), but you can't deny it exists.

I noticed the stark contrast btw IRISH & Irish-American support (or lack of) for BLM, too. I’m great-GREAT grandparents who immigrated cuz of the potato famine removed 🇮🇪🇺🇸myself (keeping in mind how young generations are having kids by 18), but I worked w/lotsa Irish ppl at Boston bars including ppl from N. Ireland (belfast)etc….& the old-school ones were VERY offended by Irish Car Bomb drinks etc. The ones who lived through “the troubles” etc. Respect to Irish peeps; the diaspora is huge, but the best ones are those in the country personally impacted by ter-orism & the North-South, Catholic/Protestant & Colonizer/Colonized conflict. Yes, they’re all white, but they get it

As an Aussie who lived for years in Ireland, yes the Irish find Australian accents funny for about a month and ask for the token phrases. They think the aussie accent is far broader than it is in reality, but aside from that it is just a good icebreaker and the Irish appreciate the change from the typical American tourist.

Hey, there was a short video at Al Jazeera of a guy yelling at a group of red shirted neo-nazis in Nashville who all covered their entire heads and wore sunglasses. ( I don't know if this person was from Australia or New Zealand, but he was brave and directly confronting the swastika flag-wavers by saying something like, " Show your faces, you cowards!" Whoever did it, wherever they are from, hopefully he remained safe afterwards. He was correct, though there are multiple ways to address those hate rallies, whatever the size. Sometimes just writing or filming allows people to organize defenses.)

Zionists we're nazi collaborators. They weren't like poor Jews that were in the Holocaust then walked out and signed an agreement with Europe to rape and slaughter Palestinians. No those were Nazi atheist Jews they were going to solve the "Jewish problem" by giving Jews their own country. Which looked good to European countries who at the time were still shattered to bits and didn't want to be suddenly flooded with Jewish refugees.

Be honest: When you say former commonwealth country, you are shy about saying South Africa. I only mention, because Afrikaner ethno nationalism is remarkably similar to Zionism, with a theology which tells them god ordained them in Africa. What's also remarkable is that while their forebears are Dutch, they've pushed the boat out and claim a kind of pseudo-indigeniety which the SA state recognises.

We don't have a centre left anymore in the USA. I am not not a Socialist, I'm not a revolutionary, I'm not anti capitalist. I merely am consistent that per enlightment values all people deserve respect, dignity and safety from state violence. It's insane to me how hypocritical so called liberals are. Liberalism for certain people but not for others. You don't have to be a leftist to know this is all bullshit. You just have to have a bit of self awareness and not be a total hypocrit. I used to vote Democrat. I have no party any more. I'm of Arab descent. I am an atheist. I have money, jokes and a great family. I like stouts and whiskey. Will Ireland adopt me?

It’s very interesting to watch people respond in such volatile ways towards the Palestinians. We have a very wild relationship to both victims and perpetrators. We scorn victims and cater to oppressors.

If you drive around Belfast you’ll find Israeli flags in Protestant/Loyalist areas and Palestinian flags in Catholic/Republican areas. Both sides obviously see strong parallels.

The Loyalists haven't a breeze. They do the opposite of what the Nationalist community do always without having any actual knowledge of what they purport to support.

Not really - it's just if one side has a flag then the other side has the 'opposite' flag. You will see the incongruity when you see the Israel Flag alongside a Nazi Flag

Loved this…hilarious. Although we’re still waiting for Bono to save the world….not even Bob Geldof GAF. Although, Ireland and Spain have been proper decent.

Omg, I never considered the conflict in Ireland being an "Protestant vs Catholic" thing was a ruse just like "Judaism vs Islam" 🤯 I knew religion was a tool, but didn't realize that angle.
