I have a friend who married a guy from a different country. They were both young, but she had a good job and one kid. He had a bike, but no money/no kids. He didn’t speak much English, but was a great dad. Rode his bike to parent teach conferences, even if he didn’t understand much. Soon they had two more kids. The relationship worked because they loved and respected each other. He did all chores, cooked all meals, supported her in every way, and looked at her like she was the most beautiful woman in the world. She was the breadwinner, but he was the backbone for the family/man of the house. When they decided to build a home in ‘98, she asked him what did he want. Most men would’ve said a man cave/game room/bar, but he wanted a central vac to suck the dust when sweeping. After over 25 years, they are still happily married. So situations like Josh and Lily can actually work, but Josh is not her soulmate. He doesn’t love her, doesn’t respect her, doesn’t appreciate her. He’s an insecure manchild. Return to Sender!

James himself wants to own the money problems, after Tata said she was going to get a job he started saying he will feel shame and he will be under societal pressure because he is not the breadwinner. Tata is crying because she sees James is the helpless and hapless mediocre American she was hoping he wasn't. James is disrespecting her parents by living in their South East Asian home complaining about not being able to have $ex openly with their daughter and refusing to even help with the business as a way of bartering for his daily bread and rent free stay at their house. Tata is crying every 2 minutes because she can see James is doing everything to make this fail and he won't tolerate the pain she enduring when she transitioned to live in the U.S. Even the environment was making Tata physically sick. James is acting like a loser he has an excuse for everything. If ppl are buying these artisan crafts in areas of the U.S. James could try to find a similar markets closer to Indonesia or target places with large U.S. ex-pat communities (in Australia? in South Africa? in France? in Hong Kong? IN JAKARTA???). James doesn't want to do sh%t but move back to his own parent's house in the U.S. where his parent's resources and his social privileges allow him to be both mediocre and successful. Lily is very successful, has a beautiful home, and just want a man who’ll genuinely love and appreciate her. It’s just unfortunate that she’s in a culture that looks at being single over 30 as a negative thing. But Josh is a manipulative, gaslighting, lazy, piece of 💩. I don’t care if he had to travel for 2 days, once within a couple of hours of finally meeting his fiancé, he should’ve been excited. But instead, he’s there for almost a week, showing no signs of affection to the point where she had to ask. Then, he tried to make her feel bad to saying he was tired, the time difference, he had a cold or something, her attitude. She’s trying to be supportive.
