Great, thank you, everyone does the CCR songs, how about a song like "Big Train from Memphis" by Fogerty?

Ah, John Fogerty… You can see with this lesson why he is one of the most underrated guitarists out there, and why some people say that his musical vocabulary is almost like a simpler version of Jimi Hendrix.

Good lesson, as always. The problem is that I’m in a band and can’t take the time to tune down my guitar, so this lesson isn’t much help.

If it's tuned down, how would a standard E shape NOT be the key of D??? And the A would be a G???
@stevenbaggett6549 Жыл бұрын
I think he might mean the chord fingering is in the key of E
@misteramerica3610 Жыл бұрын
@@stevenbaggett6549 shape of E, chord of D?🤣 clear as mud, but I think we're all on same page...CAGED system via tune down, but when tuned down all the chords change, but shapes are same🤷♂️🤦♂️

That's the issue with CAGED, people get stuck in a limiting chord shape mindset and make things more confusing than they have to be... including which key one happens to be playing in. The fact that your brain even has to process playing a D chord with an E shape is absolutely inefficient. A chord is not a shape. A chord, any chord, is based on an intervalic formula. Once you learn intervals and apply these to chord formulas (1-3-5 being major and 1-b3-5 being minor, for example) you become a chord constructor rather than a chord shape memoriser, regardless of the tuning you're in and where you are on the fretboard... not to mention, intervalic theory applies to any instrument. CAGED totally falls apart when it comes alternate tunings and communicating with other musicians. Trying to progress with CAGED is like riding a big kid bike with training wheels on.
