If your harmonic balancer was spinning on the crank, how can your power steering/ac/etc even be driven? Dont think thats it man. I think more likely just the rubber is worn.

(READ) I had a problem using a timing light on my SR. Using the loop in my wiring specialities harness gave me false timing readings. Using a GM 5.3 spark plug wire between my coil and plug gave true readings. Maybe try something similar to that.

The rubber on the balancer is worn and spinning i reckon. But could be the keyway. Hope its just a simple fix. That intro is 🔥🔥🔥 Keep it as your intro bro!

Hey Sammit, Those timing loops provided by nissan are dodgy as all hell. I always use a spark lead attachment to cylinder 1, its a much more accurate timing reading. (Have seen up to 5 degrees difference) Hope this helps!
@robertpeat70935 жыл бұрын
I had the same issue you have and I thought it was the keyway that had slipped in the balancer turned out the cambelt had slipped, you will no doubt be having the balancer off and that will find out if the keyway has broken, if not delve a little further and make sure the timing marks all line up

dont use the loop on the harness for timing. It tends to give off the wrong numbers. Run the lead directly to the number 1 cylinder.

You don't need to replace the crank simply because of a broken key. If the crank was slightly damaged, it can be machined easily
@BassManBobBassCovers5 жыл бұрын
9:32 LOL Also hoping that the keyway didn't fail. Seems like it would cause other accessory drive belt issues too tho. Worst case scenario the content would be great seeing your documentation and explanation of an RB swap. FEEL BETTER MAY!

@s13Marino5 жыл бұрын
Sam, your problem may be due to a worn cam angle sensor gear. I just fixed this on my 26, nissan didnt mount the cas straight on early rbs, so the gear inside gets chewed up over time and causes timing to wonder. The fix involves a new cam cas gear, new cas, and re centering the oem bracket. You can also upgrade to aftermarket cam triggers since you have a link ecu which would be alot easier. I tagged you on my ig pic where i go into more detail.

Try a new cas first. They can and do fail. As others suggested if the keyway for the balancer is gone you’d have no power steering and no alternator. If it is the keyway they can be repaired (even with engine in and crank in) by someone familiar with them. Basically remove the broken bits, repair crank snout (if needed) and put in a new keyway. Good idea to put a new balancer on too.

FYI japanese use their own manufacturing standards which are J.I.S. some are direct copies of American, European, or DIN standards but they have a few oddballs thrown in the mix with some stuff, hence your pipe thread which should be a BPT or british pipe thread.

sup sam ino how you feel having problems with my skyline at the moment aswell hope you get it sorted soon, quick question how much for a manuel conversion for a r33 25de over there? an how much would it all b to get it sent to new zealand?
@clutchkickpj6935 жыл бұрын
Rb25 big gearboxes are expensive and cost even more to ship out. There are tons of rbs in new Zealand so you're better off sourcing that swap there tbh

@addicted2fuel2455 жыл бұрын
If the keyway broke you would be having charging issues as well as power steering issues and the car would be sputtering and spitting at higher rpm. The rubber is probably dry rotted and on its way out. Easy fix with a new balancer
@aussielife22015 жыл бұрын
That intro was absolutely dynamite
@BOOT5 жыл бұрын
If it was moving enough to notice in the accessories, you'd prob next notice a hole in your hood. Basically it's just slipping a tiny bit here n there. If it''s the elastomer then maybe when it's hottest cause dampening creates heat. If on the crank it could move and then friction weld. Still I'm no dampener expert, GL hope it's just the elastomer and you can install a new one.
