Bad News are:- Vim Fuego/Alan Metcalf (Adrian Edmondson), Colin Grigson (Rik Mayall), Den Dennis (Nigel Planer), and Spider Webb (Peter Richardson).
BAD NEWS were originally from the best episodes of The Comic Strip - 'Bad News Tour' (made a year before This IS...Spinal Tap') and 'More Bad News'. Check 'em out - They're far funnier than this.
This is Heavy Metal parody done to the Death.
Plus a short clip of a really bad 80's pop show at the end. I think it was called 'The Roxy'.

Bad News was broadcast first actually, but Spinal Tap was released in cinemas, whereas The Comic Strip was a (then) UK/TV only affair. FYI a lot of musicians consider Bad News to be the funniest and closest to the truth.

jerry kauffman Well said! I prefer Bad News but I'm biased because I love Rik/Ade/Peter/Nigel, but in some ways I think Spinal Tap were very clever and a bit more subtle. Either way both were great, why bother comparing them?

stuart johnson Spinal Tap's thing was chaos behind the scenes, where as Bad News had the approach of letting chaos follow them wherever they went, be it on the road, on stage, in the studio... nowadays it's common knowledge that Ade knows exactly what he's doing when it comes to playing music so it's not a good idea to call him untalented. Spinal Tap wanted to follow a successful yet eccentric band. Bad News wanted to follow some blokes from down the pub who thought they were rockstars and were just a walking disaster area.

The Ramones and the Saints were both innovators and came out at the same time. You can't say the Saints did it first when the Ramones did it at the exact same time (1974). The Ramones may have even been a little earlier, because they did their first show in March when I don't believe the Saints had quite got it together yet. That being said--yeah, Americans do tend to take credit for everything!
