The SUV hype is just pathetic, in my opinion. Living in the U.K we also get our market overloaded with SUVs. It used to be Estate (station wagon for you guys across the pond). Saloon (sedan) cars are still very in demand, but SUVs just look so meh and pointless, not going into prices of them lol.

They all look too similar, provide no extra space over a sedan, provide a worse ride experience, and are never used to go off road. Why does everyone want one? I also dislike automatics so I may be in the minority here. Sedans and especially Coupes are my favored design choices, as I do get groceries on my own.

I still see many fiestas, focuses, astras and corsas, Vw golfs, Toyota yarises and even Suzuki Swifts. I went to Spain recently and they had the same crappy SUVs we have. So it seems whatever Europe gets we are more likely going to be fed that same crap in the UK.

I owned and drove a metalic-silver S60 R in 2006-2011 …. i totally agree with your exitement on Design philosophy & Details you detected and point out in the Video. I loved the Blue Speedometer Instrument Cluster as well I had the „SpaceBall“ (Manual 6speed Shifter). Still today: I loved this car.

My daily driver is a 2001 s60 T5 that I purchased used in August 2004. Just hit 451000kms(280000 miles). Original engine, transmission and turbo. The first generation P2 platform Volvo cars are the most under rated vehicles ever produced!

The 2019 and above s60 is one of the sexiest sedans made. However it does have an interesting flaw which it has had from the previous modell years. When it rains and you open the trunk. Some of the collected water on top will drip down into the cargo compartment on the sides because the rubber seals and metal chassi bends downward, letting water sip down from the back window into the cargo area. Interesting miss and flaw imo.

Only excuse to buy a crossover suv is if you’re actually doing some off-roading (most on the market aren’t even built with this in mind anymore) or if you’re mobility is limited and you need something very easy to get in and out of. I simply don’t understand the obsession with the egg cars.

I am a huge car design critic and despise almost all new cars today. But even as a swede, seeing volvos literally day in day out, the S60, S90 and the V models have never looked better than they do right now. One of the S models would be probably the only 2020+ model I would ever imagine wanting to own. And don't even get me started on the orange/red paint job on the new S models...

coming from a V60 owner, if there is one way in which the volvo sedans and wagons are disadvantaged, it's in ease of access. My family's a stubby peoples, and it still feels like the V60 is very much a car you fall into and climb out of, (vs one u climb into and step down from, or just plain sit into). and their front doors are relatively long, such that u might not be able to open them very wide in tight city parking spots. my elderly parents both have bad knees+legs. if things were up to them, they'd probably much rather be in a CX-30, or kona, and they actively avoid driving the V60 (though that's also because the tech overwhelms them, and there's toyotas in the household that are far simpler to operate) And personally, I don't care as much for the S60 and S90, as long as canada keeps the V60/V90. nothing beats a wagon for hauling kayaks.

The Volvo XC90 and S90 / V90 are one of the best looking cars on the (European) market. Unfortunately the S- and V90 Platform is front wheel drive and no rear wheel like a proper luxury sedan / estate like BMW or Merceders, and there are no 6 cylinder (diesel) engines anymore. Big mistake in the dashboard is to have the display vertical oriented instead of horizontal because as you drive your visual sight is mainly based on horizontal focusing. It also makes the interior look narrower. Small changes can make them a player in the executive market as they have a more accepted name than the azian brands trying to compete here. But Volvo wants to switch to electrical only so they are out of that segment anyway.

I hate SUVs under 6 seats, they have little extra space compared to sedans which look feel drive better and much more. My parents only got an SUV when my grandparents came to Canada and we actually needed 7 seats. TDI Jetta was awesome, lost the OG ES2 Civic, which my family had before me, because we needed to make material/waste trips very frequently or even daily during our home construction for 2-3 years. Thankfully I'm able to drive so now I got another Civic

My dad had a S60. Worst car to ever enter the driveway. Left us stranded and was such a overly engineered mess. I could do a jig. Im genuinely so happy this car was killed off. Never said that about any other model to ever exist. Even ugly cars. Such a shame that it is still available elsewhere in other markets. We dont really see the point in buying a sedan ever again. We have had two Camrys after the S60. They are fine but not good enough to buy again. These cars are SLAMMED to the ground. Hyper impractical in our areas. Been a issue a few times. Can barely clear every day curbs. The roof line is so low. We arent tall but our heads are so close to the roof. My head hits the ceiling in the back of most sedans I sit in. They feel like dungeons. Trunks are pretty impractical. A hatchback, CUV, wagon, MPV makes much more sense. If you want sportiness buy a coupe. The sedan body style just makes no sense when you really think about it.

The only way to save the car/wagon is regulation. For non-commercial vehicles, higher hood height = higher taxation for buyers and producers. Then watch how automakers start shifting their advertising to show how cool wagons are!

Volvo has been taking a lot strange decisions lately. They removed v60cc and v90cc from the offer, they stopped offering diesel engines in Europe that constituted 50% of sales, and they want to stop offering combustion engines from from 2030, when all other brands abandoned ideas .

I have 3litre diesel in a limo...without that I wouldn't buy a sedan...so this S60 was never good enough for me Poor engine choices (T8 is not sporty and the top speed limit to 112mph/180kmh is funny in Europe)

I really wonder who is making decision of which car to import? Is it mostly up to manufacturers? Or there are laws? Is the sales number really that bad so they decides to not sell hatch backs like AMG A45 and BMW 1 series? And S60? I just went to test drive the hybrid S60 a while ago, after seeing topherdrives’ video, a really underrated powerful car, not for me but if non-car people like my parents are in the market, I would for sure consider the S60

Because sedans are too low to enter it comfortably. Plus modern vehicles in general (except large SUVs and pickup trucks) have ground clearance so low that sedan lowered into sports cars level and smaller SUV become as low as normal sedan in the past (ground clearance only, not the overall height). This makes smaller SUV easier to enter for most people while only healthy people can enter sedan easily.

Volvo Cars have lost their strategy COMPLETELY today... the company will go bankrupt with this BEV hype and they will not want to realize reality at all that they have to keep petrol, diesel and PHEVs even long after 2030... also their design philosophy with the interior is garbage too after SPA1 I will be so mad if the board fucks up the company with bankruptcy... Volvo was Volvo until 2018-2019 with everything from R, to T5-R, Polestar cars with 6-cyl and 4-cyl, SPA1 platform and all of it. There is so much history and emotion to this brand. After 2019 their strategy is totally down the drain...
