@@gideonstacticalStill have it? How's it holding up? I doubt you'll ever see this, but I ran across a Crooked River (old stock) for about $220... They did put it back for me. It's been kind of my grail knife for a few years. All that sounds great except I keep thinking that I could get a Gerber Sedulo and a Mora Garberg, for right at the same amount. Anyways, I will be pulling the trigger here in about 2 weeks... But, you see my dilemma? I have a Becker BK2 for camping... It is a tank. Need a good folder. Was planning to pair the Crooked River with the BK2 and possibly a Mora Robust or Companion HD... Possibly an Eldris... for the detail and lighter work, feather sticks, etc... Any thoughts? I doubt I get a reply seeing as how this video is two years old... But hey, you never know. Thanks for all the great content. you never know.

Benchmade Griptillian vs Gerber Sedulo. Different blade shape, different handle shape and different construction. They only use the same locking mechanism. To say the Sedulo is a knockoff of the Griptillian is like saying a Speyderco Endura is a knockoff of a Buck 110. These two knives fill the same niche so one has to compare, but I like the Sedulo better than the Grip. Gave my Grip to my brother..he deserved a good knife. Knife enthusiast's are fickle. I was waiting for your review before ordering. Great review, now to place my order...thanks.

I think Gerber's starting to come back to life. I just received a customized Terracraft and it's a very well designed blade and sheath with excellent fit and finish. Only took a week and a half to deliver. The grind is a bit thick and the sheath needs a dangler (which it is capable of accepting) but otherwise I'm impressed.

I pre-ordered this knife and have had a few days to fiddle with it. I want Gerber's comeback to succeed as someone who lives 15 minutes away from their headquarters. The price point is about right for the materials. But there are some fit & finish nitpicks that I would expect to be improved for a knife that costs a hundred bucks. I also own two Griptilians and absolutely agree that it's the knife that Gerber is most trying to compete with here. While I like the Sedulo for what it is, I think the extra $20 or so for an S30V Griptilian is still worth it (particularly since I paid $105 for my S30V Griptilian).

I'm totally stoked to finally see Gerber is stepping up to the plate....and with American made production. I'm always a fan of most any of Crucible's powder metallurgy steels. S30V is still king IMO for the money. Now my decision is whether to buy the black oxide version or just the plain satin blade version. Maybe both.

Finally received mine yesterday and out of the box, the action is outstanding and having owned dozen of AXIS, ABLE locks, I know it will only get softer and sweeter. Centering is perfect. Very sharp, but it better be. No blade play and very comfortable. Only negative is the un even edge. This is a working knife, so I'm not bothered by that at all. This isn't one of my pretty knives, although I've got to say I'm glad I went with the blue as it's nice, but like my Grips, this one is going out in the yard with me as we speak, so I'll straighten that edge out when I need to sharpen it. Overall, great feel, great weight, the clip is perfection and I have knives that cost 5X as much that I WISH had a deep carry clip like this. For the money, this is a fidget friendly winner. And outstanding review as always, Aaron.

Designed in the USA, made in...??? I really liked Gerber back in the day, 1980's, but just have no interest anymore. Like Kershaw, I have there original field knife kit made in the USA and it is still great after 20+ year and now there just mediocre at best. I completely understand why but there quality went right out the window. The thing I appreciate about your videos is there is no BS to your reviews its all straight up, thank you, and that's what makes me decide if a product is worth purchasing. It will be nice when and if Gerber will start making all there products again in the USA so you don't have to go looking. Great video as always Gideon, thanks again!

I'm always a bit behind on knife releases, just found this one the other day. if this were made 5, 6 years ago, I probably wouldn't own 3 griptilians. its got a nicer blade shape, full flat ground and a more ergonomic looking handle with the same blade steel unless you figure in my old 154cm mini grip I traded off years ago. I also figure the heat treats should be fairly similar too. Overall I'd consider this a win. It'll be going on my short list for sure.

I have not heard of this one. Thanks for the heads up. I noticed you reviewed the Gerber Gator. The Gator was my first real knife. My wife bought one for me the 1st year they came out, like 1991 or 1992? USA made Gerber knives have never let me down. S30V is a low maintenance good steel. It stays very sharp for a long time, very rust resistant, and is not chippy. You can pay more, but why?

If a griptilian and bugout had a baby this is the knife it would be. If Gerber offered it with different scale material (G10 or Micarta) then it would be a no brainer for me. I understand with the S30V they had to cut cost on the handles by using the polymer but I really dislike the cheap feeling of it (currently have a griptilian with FRN scales). In the realm of this style of knives I still think the Hogue/Doug Ritter RSK Mk1 G2 is the top dog for me. The grind is middle ground between the Griptilian and the Sedulo and it has milled G10 scales. Thanks for the review!
@mikezeee4871

Always great reviews and this one is no different. For the record the terminology for the locking mechanism is referred to as a "crossbar"; easy to remember as well. One disadvantage of all knives that use the crossbar locking mechanism in my estimation are the springs which provide the release and lock. Overtime springs do fatigue and weaken. Only the manufacturer wouod accurately know, what engineers refer to as, "cycles to failure" on the spring mechanisms. Of course the crossbar lock is stronger than the frame and liner locking mechanisms for the most part. Of course, the best locking mechanism is none at all, a fixed blade! Again, thank you for a thorough and accurate review especially as you compare them to other competitive models in its class. Take care.

It looks like Gerber is getting better with the crossbar lock. I got a Highbrow model a little while back, it was a cheap pickup on a whim, and I thought it was a huge miss. It had a very strange extra lock under the flipper tab, and it was assisted. The assist spring made the axis style lock completely useless. Why have a crossbar lock if your going to stop the blade halfway closed?

I don't know much about knives like this but are you sure the bushings are brass and not bronze? I think bronze is a more common bushing material.

To all the people going to say “oh they copied benchmade” (because I’m already seeing some ignorant people saying so) no they didn’t. The axis lock wasn’t even benchmades invention, they bought it off someone, of which the patent expired so it’s free game. Chris Reeves invented the frame lock, but we don’t say every frame lock other companies use is a copy.

Yep, that’s why I said, “Benchmade made it famous.” 👍

Very impressive knife. Since the knife in the review is a prototype I would hope the rocking at 1:50 would be resolved once the Sedulo goes to full production. Overall I like this knife. I own the Gerber MP400 and Strongarm and they have been reliable and steady performers for years. Love the price point which is great for an Axis Lock type of knife.

I mean it's essentially a griptilian copy. I'm glad they are using better materials and being produced in the US but why not design your own knife make it better than the grip?

Well if you mean nailed it by copying a Benchmade Griptilian as closely as they could Id say I agree. I do kinda like the look of the Gerber a bit more then the Griptilian you compared it to. But Id want to know that there was no patent or design infringement shenanigans before buying one!

The Benchmade Griptilian has been out for nearly 2 decades..... little late, Gerber 😂 In all seriousness, there are tons of amazing knives out there nowadays. FRN and S30V is nothing new or exciting. I do think that the USA made stuff is a huge step forward. I just think their quality control is severely lacking on USA made stuff I’ve fit recently (Emerson alliance, 06 Auto, Propel).
